Along with Slongo who took trolling to next level, everybody in Nibali's camp seems happy, there's peace with Roglic, jokes flying. I wouldn't be surprised by an alliance with the sky jumper next against newcomer Carapaz with Landa, unbeknownst to him, tricked to lend a hand. There will be more twists in the plot.

I think Nibs rightly know the only way he wins the Giro is by dropping Rogic. Having Rogic now having to worry about movistar is great news for Nibali's hopes. I still doubt whether he has the ability to sustain a big attack like we've been him as his peak, but if he can he still has a chance if that happens and Rogic shows a bit of weakness

If he has to win he needs 2.5 mins to Roglic and 1 min to Carapaz in the mountains. Considering that he was huffing and puffing yesterday, he does not have the capability to drop those two. If he attacks Movi will chase him down. So his GC position will depend on what others do. I suspect his takeaway from this Giro will be frustration.

He thinks that, but the truth is that he also needs to drop Carapaz too...

Huffing and puffing he was the second best climber on the hardest climb yet in this Giro while being the instigator of the selection and putting a few digs along the way, all the others were on his and Caruso's wheel all the way up. Roglic is very strong, Nibali needs other riders to take turns in attacking Roglic, riders who are dangerous to the Slovenian for the GC. With Carapaz and to a lesser extent Landa, from now on Roglic has to cover by himself if he wants to win, he can't rely on Nibali to do it. This means more energy spent, danger to counters during the third week of a GT. He needs to take 2:10 to Roglic, we'll see. As for Carapaz, I will just say that if he takes it to Verona it will be a big surprise.

There are 7 stages remaining, and 5 of those are mountain stages... third week of a GT. Anything can happen. Either way.

This is a great Giro. Not sure anyone can make a confident prediction as of today. Yes anything can happen including surprises which are almost certain.

The long game is still on . If Roglic loses on the climbs to come ( can see it happen) and have to see if Carpaz can keep the top form and not have a bad day

Lost a 50s to Nibali in the big one.

Last year he was worse than MAL but not in this shape. If Nibali turns it around and starts dropping him uphill I can see maybe 30s?

Remember when his group almost closed the gap to carapaz yesterday before it went out again. I kinda think he regtets not closing that gap for good now. Roglic really doesn't look unbeatable anymore

Nah, The Shark wants Pink!!!! He'll do everything he can to make the top step. If Carapaz is to strong or Roglic makes a come back well he did his best. But Carapaz is young, Roglic is inexperienced and Nibs will try to crack them .

Unless Roglic is gonna make a miracle recovery, I can see him dropping out of the top 5 if *** goes off on Passo Manghen. And Mitchelton will make sure of that.

Then there's really only stage 20 back to do something big for Nibali IMO.

Carapaz is clearly the best climber here. It seems like it will take something very special tactically, maybe on stage 20 with Mitchelton and Bahrain putting guys up the road and then blowing it up on Manghen or something, to surprise him and overhaul him. Losing Gavia seems like a big blow for Nibali.

And even then, it's not going to be like putting away ill Chaves in 2016.

Stage 14 was obviously also a tactical failure in hindsight from both of them. Thank god that Caruso had an exceptional day.

Looking at it, assuming Nibs doesnt break Carapaz on Mortirolo, stage 17 is actually every interesting. It has the make up of a great ambush stage, put riders in the break and go early. Its Fuente Dé at steroids.

Without the Gavia today was the only day Nibali could use his extra climbing powers with 232 kms and Carapaz looked very comfortable behind him, next days he could only loose time on pure strength battles.

Well, maybe he still has a doll left for the third week and problem solved or he'll try an ambush or he'll go full Contador on Maghen saying "o salta il Giro o salto io", look improbable but everything can happen.

Got a feeling Carapaz will have a jours sans, Nibali looked great today, I think he will win this race. Long way to go, we shall see.

There's still a long way to Verona. He is in very good shape, third week is coming. While Carapaz is on his way to do a Horner on Nibali actually there's no Horner like Horner. So, keep the faith. After taking off the ski jumper is coming down, let's see how long his jump is.

I know I'm beating a dead horse, but the stage 14 tactics by the group chasing Carapaz looks worse and worse with each passing day. Yes, Richie was the strongest on the day, but after pulling out about 30 seconds on the mountain, his lead was down to about 20 seconds with Roglic working on the descent. Then they all just sat up for the poker game. Not saying they could have closed the gap on Carapaz completely, but surely they could have kept the gap to no more than 30 seconds (probably less). From Nibali's perspective, that's giving almost a two-minute lead to the strongest climber with more mountain stages to come. For Roglic, that let the fox in the henhouse . . . and he's one of the hens.
