@vincenzonibali "I met Contador after the stage and I said to him that he inspired me, because when he was in the peloton he wouldn’t never give up, just like me. You have to fight till the end. You can't be satisfied with a 2nd place..., the only thing that counts is the win” https://t.co/S6Px64wZNm
Contador also inspired Slongo to claim that his numbers are better than anyone else's.

I think Nibali has a great chance to win. I think he rode the other stages this week pretty calculated. Put in an effort today but very close to the end of the stage. There are long and hard stages where anything can happen next week. He will need to gain some time on Carapaz at some point but Carapaz could fade too. Nibali need to be good and solid. Not have a bad day. Then pick a day to go all out, if he has energy and legs for it. Like Stage 20...

Nibali has a chance to win. And he looks to be getting stronger. Sometimes I think that age will catch up to him in third weeks of GT's but you never know.

As for Carapaz is concerned. There is some difference between 2016 comeback and last year's comeback and is the Movistar team. Movistar seems very strong and could be key in defending the pink jersey for Carapaz.

Anyway, is looking to be a great week even without the Gavia.

On another note, Carapaz showed some weakness downhill today. I'm sure Nibali will spend some time memorizing the Mortirolo descent on Street View tomorrow...
I'm not sure he'll be first to start the descent, so he'll probably need it to catch up

I can understand that Nibali is not quite your cup of tea but to see Carapaz as the next coming of Christ in cycling is a bit much. Today was the first day when they have gone mano a mano on a climb and I didn't see a difference. Carapaz lost 2 minutes to Yates on Zonc last year, what makes you think he will drop Nibali on Mortirolo?

To be honest it can go either way, but anyone (myself included) may justify whatever outcome based on a selected pick of past performances. How many minutes lost Yates to Carapaz in Finestre? Keep calm and don't take my jokes too seriously ;)

Mortirolo can make or break anyone, it's hard to keep calm. At this moment all I can think that Nibali has as a plus is the fact that he did it three times in his career while Carapaz will face the monster for the first time. Anyway, I think Tuesday will be decisive to know who will not win the Giro.

I don't know that he needs a lot of experience to follow Nibali up the climb to be honest. Because that's all he needs to do. And then jump away before the top - the way he is riding it looks like he will be easily capable of that.

Mortirolo is brutal, any mistake in your own pacing could be fatal.
Nibali looking very good, extremely confident and relaxed.

Only problem is that at the moment Carapaz seems stronger, has a good team and nice buffer.

Carapaz is the problem Nibali and others created themselves though. In an interview Nibali seems to still blame Roglic for giving Carapaz so much time, but it was up to all the chasers to make that decision.

Yes. The only slightly positive thing is that Carapaz is now problem for everybody, including Roglic. Not just for Nibali. I believe the 47s buffer he has on Roglic might even be enough for 17km TT at the end of race where usually the time differences are smaller than at the beginning of GT. Even Roglic is probably thinking he needs time on Carapaz on 3rd week.

I wouldn't say he is stronger just that he has a big buffer generously given away by Nibali and Roglic and a totally surprising exceptional support by Movistar. Maybe Max Sciandri brought some logic in Unzue's team. Carapaz looks to be a tougher nut to crack than Roglic but that's the beauty and excitement. I am still confident.

Not only Carapaz seems stronger. If Roglic hadn't had that mechanical, combined with the wrong bike and chase, Nibali wouldn't be able to drop him. On the Mortirolo it's going to be Nibali that must attack first and Roglic/Carapaz can counter him. Not an ideal stage for Vincenzo

I remain optimistic. The only reason Carapaz is ahead is because they so foolishly played games instead of chasing him. Yes he looks very strong, but he is young. Movistar is very strong but Caruso and Pazzo are there and Nibali has the most race nous of anyone there. He can make it happen one more time :)
EDIT: If Carapaz wins it's Horner all over again. Not paying attention to a legitimate rival :(

At least if it shapes up to be Horner all over again, I hope he will do just what he has to do to take those seconds back and not some crazy Angliru gazillion attacks. It was heroic, fantastic to watch but in the end he needed just a handful of seconds achievable maybe with a wiser approach.

Back to Italia, I think Mortirolo might be the key that will unlock the door for winning the Giro. Huge stage tomorrow.
