Vincenzo Nibali: It's been talked about so much that I'm starting to sick of it all to be honest. It was an external case, a family affair and nothing to do with the team. I don't think the whole team should be blamed or punished for something stupid they did. The Astana team took some serious decisions after what happened and has paid the price.

People think that what happened (with the Iglinskiy brothers) was because of a problem within the team but that's not the case. When people do things wrong these days, it's of their own doing. It's a personal decision that puts everything at risk for themselves, their reputation, their family, their contracts, everything. It's really stupid to think someone would risk doing that in this day and age. They're also stupid because everyone knows that the tests done today can be tested in years to come for other substances and so there's little chance for people to dope and get away with it.

17 year old French rider done for banned substance seems to invalidate the assumption that French + new generation == clean.

It was a lame product he got done for, but still an ADRV.
You cannot be that stupid to use that logic to come up with that conclusion?

Sky deservedly get heat for their holier than thou attitude about doping, but I have felt that the scrutiny they have been under encourages some of their more strident soundbites. Now that Nibali has won the TDF, it sounds like he is starting to face the same kind of scrutiny. And it is becoming harder and harder for him to just say 'no comment'.

Without having tested positive, we know 100% he is doping. Classic Omertà speech. Everyone does on their own , how foolish can you be nowadays etc.
Nothing to see here. Boring to discuss because he doesn't belong to the "donkey to race horse" category.

What "good deal of evidence" is there to suggest he's clean?(I'm just asking here)
He beat a bunch of other dopers, and a field that didn't have many top contenders, it was more of a fluke win IMO.

:) To be fair, what do you want him to say regarding doping? With his dad ready to go, he literally have his own existence on the line here:D

What does that mean?

his dad during a post Tour interview said he is 100% sure "Enzo" is clean and he would never take PEDs. and his dad was serious, he was not lying, he meant it.

I fear that his dad will be mad at him and won't let him come to Sicilly when he learns the truth. :(

. It's right that he's responsible as the Astana team manager for what they did but not for his own past

Best quote ever

Now riders are not responsible for their own past actions

Is this what he will use as a defence when he gets busted - I was responsible for the team but not my own actions or past actions.

Absolute numbnuts

So if/when one of his 7 man training group gets busted ... ?

With Astana firmly in the UCI sights they really must be being super careful about everything.

Interview in today's Guardian.

“[Chris] Froome and Contador were ahead of me at the Critérium du Dauphiné [in June],” Nibali says, “but I arrived at the Tour in peak form. I did fantastic altitude training and I could feel it. Boom. I was in great shape. It was the first time I’d prepared for just one race and we saw the impact from the start.”

The Armstrong model.

Nibali’s extraordinary triumph this year marked the culmination of a long journey of sacrifice.

LOL! You mean his fluke win, where pretty much all of the other top riders weren't there so he could win? Yeah, sounds "extraordinary" to me.

It has taken him 14 long years but he is now only the sixth rider to have won all three grand tours (joining Jacques Anquetil, Felice Gimondi, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Alberto Contador). He had already conquered the Vuelta a España in 2010 and a snowy Giro d’Italia in 2013. In this summer’s Tour de France he finished 7min 37sec clear of the second-placed rider, Jean‑Christophe Péraud.

My guess is in about 5 or so years, he'll be busted for doping too.(Further proof of this is that 2 of his fellow teammates got busted for doping).

Who was the last rider to lead the Tour after all stages except two and on the way to the overall win also won four road stages? Sounds "extraordinary" to me
