EPIC THREAD!!!

Used to be a big Vino fan, but when he returned I couldnt support him & his LBL win I didnt really enjoy. But his performance at the Giro reminded me why I loved him so much! Why cant everyone ride like that?! His win at the TDF was the best stage of the whole race for me. What a legend!

so if Merkcx was there is that a clue to the bikes they are riding next season ?
I really wanted to ask that, but got lost a bit.

Anyway Vino has been hanging around with Eddy for quite a while now.

For all we know they could seal a deal when Vino and Eddy will be going hog-hunting this weekend (no joke, they are really going to).

thanks for the info.

Think Vino needs to buy a new shirt though, fit didn't look very good ;-)

What did Alberto think of Kazakhstan then ? Was this in Astana or maybe Almaty, only know two towns in the country !

ok, vino is officially everywhere now.

First i met him and Alberto and Eddy on presentation.

Then they went as guests to Davis cup stage (which was aired live on local channel, kazakhstan vs suisse, kazakhstan won by the way).

And now all three of them are now on russian Eurosport channel talking to commentator by phone!

i think it's pretty cool that Contador is still doing stuff with Astana... says a lot, both about his character and Vino's -- especially considering negotiations began during the Tour.

makes me a little less upset at Alberto for leaving and, of course, shows the awesomeness of Vino's charisma and what a damned fine DS he will make!

(thank god we still get another year of his attacks, though :D )

Not exactly on topic but was not sure where to put it. Does anyone know what the drama between Dmitri Murayev and Kashechkin is? Murayev supposedly said he will not go to the Asian Championships if Kash is on the team. Then he denied he said that and bla bla bla. Got this info on Twitter yesterday from a Spanish sportswriter. Si, its in Espanol.

This guy has good cycling info BTW

Doesn't it say that Murayev put the indispensable condition that he wouldn't go to the Asian Games as a member of the Kazakh team if Kash wasn't also in the squad?

You know what, I think you are right. I speak Spanish, but not Latin. Looked up Sine Qua and indeed you are correct sir.

aw shiit it seems that we gonna have a hell of a tour next year like in the good old days:

- Do you plan to Astana to hold talks with Kashechkin about his future in Kazakhstan's transition team?
- Quite possibly. If Andrew will show his strength, he proves that he is able to perform at a high level and get results, it is likely that he will come in the "Astana".

- Personally, you would like to see Andrew in the "Astana next season?
- Probably, the next season, no question. Personally, my "Tour de France to fight for the prize, Kashechkin is not needed.

- Who are the newcomers of "Astana" Do you think the greatest success of the transfer?
- I think Roman Kroytsiger - is the strongest gain. He is young but very promising racer. Perhaps Roman will be the main striking force of Astana on the "Giro" and will be my principal assistants to "Tour".

- Does a victory in the overall standings of the Tour de France "your crystal dream?
- A dream - a dream. Remains. I will fight in 2011 for the overall victory. But in the presence of such strong opponents as Contador and Schleck brothers, expect to win very difficult.

He also said that Kashechkin's twenty-something-nth place in the last Vuelta was not a good result.

A bit of strange statement, considering that Vino himself blew his own post-hiatus Vuelta.

I've got absolutely the same feeling. For me it sounds like Vino is completely against Kash's presence in the team, even though he's not saying it precisely. He argues that 18th place overall is not an indicator of a good riding level. Sounds weird, really... It would’ve been better, had he named things as they are. I still don't get it, 1 year have passed and no person issued the official statement considering Kash status, i.e. as not being included in the team. There were some speculations about Kash, but no sound explanation was brought to the audience. Kash himself did not explain what’s went wrong between him, Kazakh Cycling Federation and Vino. However, I do reckon that Kash will finally be back, after Vino’s retirement. At least I hope so. It seems like the hidden tension between two strong characters is continuing.

For me this news is a bummer - I'd rather see Vino ride in the Giro than the TdF. It seems to me he has more of a chance in the Giro to be on the podium plus it's just a more enjoyable race to watch than the TdF, IMO.

I agree. If Vino was a race, he'd be the Giro. :)
