SO sad. I put off my own ride today for two hours, just hoping that today would be the day for Vino in yellow. To miss like that in just the last km. Just way depressing.

A beautiful photo is up of Vino on his FB page - I'd post it but no clue how to post images. It shows his face at the finish. :(

Just like last year's Giro he made today's race worth watching! If he wants to get some time buffer tommorow might be his last chance. Let's see how it goes.

He did exaclty what he needed today...didn't pull it off but he had to try.

Vino has had a great comeback, I was immensely sad and shocked when he left and I thought he would never come back but he has done really really well and he has to be proud of his efforts, hats off to him... it will be a sad day when he is gone for good.

All that attack and excitement for nothing.
it wasn't for nothing.

it shows Vino still has the drive, the passion and soul to win.

no boring cat and mouse tactics, feeling out the competition, exerting as little effort as necessary, to get a victory for him... when Vino wins, VINO WINS!

Vino has the heart of a warrior. it wasn't for nothing just because he didn't succeed this time.

he'll be back.

when vino came back after his suspension i ran an exploration poll here to take pulse of the landscape.

to my surprise, unlike for the the majority of 'returnees', vino scored quite favourably.

we can clearly see the reason - the man is racing with his heart after his tactical mind calculated the odds. today was just that day.

it did not work.

how did vino respond ? after the race there was no whining, no blaming others, no self-pity....

'it will work next time', he laconically told the interviewer in so-so french.

Nothing as in he didnt win or take time on anyone.Dont get me wrong, I like the way Vino rides and i even predicted that he would super exicted for stage 8.

but if he doesn't try, he won't win anything. ever.

Vino should be the one disappointed, not us. he gave it everything he had today and it wasn't enough... can we ask for anything more from a rider?

we were treated to an exciting stage because of him. and, thankfully, we will have more to look forward to.

Vino won't give up (but he won't always win either).

it's very possible that vino will go again today on the attack if he recovered well.unfortunately i think this is the last chance for le maillot jaune.
he said he's not interested in a top 5-6 overall because he doesn't like to stay in the peloton for that.with all due respect for all the riders, vino is right, nobody remembers in two-three year time a guy who does nothing but finishes from 4 to 10 on the final gc.that's why i hate much of those tactics.
he also said it's possible for him to fight for the KOM jersey.
ALLEZ VINOOO!

It was not for nothing. Thanks to Vino BMC used a lot of energy yesterday. Also it made the stage much more exiting to watch.

The End of an Era

Alexander "Vino" Vinoukorov has crashed out of the Tour de France.

This was set to be his last proffesional race. It is unlikely he will ever take part in a proffesional bike race again.

One of the greatest riders of his time who will always be remembered like Pantani for his attacking riding.

I'm done watching this race.

There isn't really anything left in it.

No words can express my feelings, it's like 2007 all over again.

Retirment number 2 for Vino, I never like to see any rider fall and I feel bad for the guy with a broken pelvis but cycling is better off without him. Ciao Vino
