Defo thick if you judge a season on 1 Stage in February.
I've followed him for long enough to know what I can expect based on a result. In 2013 and 2015 I kept on believing until the very end that he would come into form when it mattered yet it didn't happen.

Flo, at least give him enough credit to keep having hope for more than 2 stages will ya :D . This result is too crappy to just be explained by bad form, which is a good thing in itself, if I make sense
I'll wait to see what he can do tomorrow in the ITT. Don't have high hopes.
Hopefully Luisle or Tony can beat Thomas overall!
Agree the result almost seems too bad to be real.

I think you should wait to Malhao. Logically, he should have lost a little power on flat ITT's since it seems he has lost some weight.

Really, his weight has never bothered him in an ITT. If he bombs the ITT tomorrow, well.......

I was just thinking, if it's clear my guy is deffo not winning the Tour, I'll just care about the European championchips rather than the Tour. Then I realised I'm Dutch.

Goddammit Contador, save my summer, or weed will

Nice pictures. Hard day.

After 33 poition, big gaps.

In the past algarve was one of the forst races and almost anybody was in shape here, but today people came even from Australia and have a much better shape.

I think Contador didnt lose big time, it is quite normal.

In Andalucia lat year he was good in Hazallanas, not a long stage, but in the long stage he fade a little, at least with Froome. Long stages at a big pace with wind is not the best scenario for Contador, but I think he will be much better in Malhao.

Primož Roglič and Amaro Antunes in the top 10 = awesome. Roglič is ready to step up. Antunes was one of the most promising young riders in Portugal a few years ago, his climbing display in the Volta do Futuro was awesome, but he's floundered a bit as a pro so far, however being a Portuguese continental rider who goes well in Algarve against the big guns and not just in August augurs well.

It would be really great if all that Contador talk could be kept to the, well, Contador thread here. It's painful to read through page after page of Contador lamenting...

Relax people :p it´s el pistolero´s first race of the season. He is just starting to find his rythm and he is raceing against ryders who has raced before this season. Give him some time and some credit. This isnt a guy who has no clue what he is doing .. He has moore expirence at buliding form for the tour than anybody.. Rember 2009 when contador boinked at the Paris-Nice an didnt win the dauphine.. Well he destoied the tour that year

But still in the last years he was always very strong in his first race of the season so he doesnt even have so much experience of getting into a good shape for the tour after a bad start of the season. I'm not saying he can't do it but today at least wasnt a good sign.

In the 2014 volta ao Algarve he lost time to Kwiatkowski on th 2. stage and then again on the 3. stage which was a ITT. I think 2014 was a pretty good season for him ;)

Roglic.. an even bigger transformation than Woods is.

Being a talented skijumper, but having knee injuries so I think he stopped at the age of 19/20? Then he decided to start cycling a sport which isn't used in skijumping training.
I guess it's job well done by him!

Those were pretty good performances, stage 2 was a downhill finish and he only lost a few seconds to Kwiatkowski, in the ITT he finished 4th and while he lost 19s to Kwiatkowski, he lost only 9 seconds to Malori and 7 to Martin. Not bad at all. But okay, perhaps it is too early to draw conclusions. Let's first see what he can do in tomorrow's ITT.

He was only 17 back then. Ski jumpers are able to show results at really young age, especially when compared to cyclists who just cannot comepte with elite riders at this age.

Roglic actually did great in Croatia Tour last year. Field was very weak though.

So who is the favourite for the GC now. Sanchez? Thomas? Maybe Machado, Ion or Pinot? Martin will lose to much on Malhao I think.
