Volta Ciclista a Catalunya 2025, March 24-30

I fear that we're gonna get a very boring Volta. Tomorrow doesn't' look steep enough either and Saturday is of course hard, but only if a team wants to make sure it is. And for some reason I have the feeling no team is super strong here. I assume Visma might try for Kuss again on the Saturday stage, just like last year tho. UAE obviously could but do they want to if Ayuso is faster than Roglic anyways? Red Bull doesn't have the team. QS should absolutely try but do they have the team. Lecerf is looking good (he seems to have made a step), but VPP a little bit less.

Congratulations to Juan Ayuso Pesquera for winning the stage

A rather slow paced stage where we did see some GC action at the end. Bernal did good and so did Kuss. As for Rogla i feel that some good form was demonstrated today and first win of the season should hence be near. On why it didn’t happen today, well, another rider was better, beyond that likely a small error was made in terms of positioning in the final corner. After realisation i guess we have seen Rogla the mentor and not Rogla the aggressor. Considering Rogla and Ayuso will be one of the main rivals through the whole spring campaign i feel that Rogla did the right thing and Ayuso acknowledged that in the post race interview. Now i guess it's time for some Rogla the wheelsucker. Unless i guess the level of form Rogla is in to take its toll and Rogla to naturally stomp starting tomorrow. We'll see.

Okay, I'm a bit late to this, but still...
I get to watch the live transmission of RTVE... both commentators Andres and Pedro Delgado are fans of Marc Solar. Me too!
What I saw and listened to was this,
The finish was very quick. No one knew who had won. I was sympathetic towards Ayuso.
We then saw Ayuso was collapsed as though he had crashed. They did a replay of the finish . Ayuso had won. Then a replay of Ayuso dizzily braking into the snow - an obvious dramatic play for the cameras.
Then an interview with Sep Kuss - who as always was too tired to speak Spanish... whatever... he never says anything afterwards anyway...
Up next it is Ayuso. Good,.. he is okay and still with us. A question in Spanish from the TV man. The answer is the typical blah, blah as you might suspect.
(It should be noted that Ayuso's responses are extremely educated.)
The TV interviewer then apologises for asking the next question in English, (here I am paraphrasing)...
"Does the fact that UAE won the Volta last year add pressure to you?"
Ayuso, who's English is suprisingly good, answers, "If Solar is wearing the no1 this year, I want to be wearing the no1 next year."
Immediately Delgado (who is not daft at all) responds, "Well he didn't mention the name of the one who won last year did he!"
I'll leave it there... except to say pro cycling in the snow is a must!

Please do more of these recaps!

Ayuso's surprisingly good English stems from his having spent much of his youth in America. But yes, thankfully he is still with us :tearsofjoy:

Both Yates' appear to be using Tirreno and now this to just sit there having a chat in the bunch. Adam was on the front for a short while today but I think that's just because he doesn't like Visma and wanted to troll-chase Kuss' attack down.

Anyway Roglic needs to watch Scaroni's sprint against Buitrago this year again, if there's a bend you're entitled to send them to the barriers if it is within the racing line.

Simon yates to visma is a match made in hell man, get that boy back to Jayco . He needs to be doing the full paul daoble schedule dropping Ricco climbing performances in Spanish .1 races , not this 7 altitude camps and all WT season. Its like seeing a great footballing talent get ruined by guardiola

Kruijswijk had a brief PTSD reaction seeing Ayuso and his bike sprawled on the snowbank

Something interesting, there A LOT of cross tailwind expected in the region where they will be on Friday. The wind will increase throughout the afternoon. Right now the most wind is expected from 6PM onwards, so a bit too late but if it gets more windy a bit earlier we will definitely see some echelon action.

Ayuso litterally says: "we have the number 1 in our team which is Soler, thanks to Tadej last year" in the answer he gives.

This is La Molina every year, I don't understand why anyone expects anything different
Previous finishes:

2023: Evenepoel attacks early on the climb, wins in a 2-man sprint.
2022: O'Connor wins solo with an early attack on the climb.
2019: Superman wins solo with an early attack on the climb.
2018: A select group of 4 riders sprint for the win after early attacks on the climb.
2017: Reduced bunch sprint.
2016: Reduced bunch sprint.

2015 and 2014 were from the side they descended yesterday.

La Molina is the most underrated finish in all of cycling.
