It's way easier to play with 3 (or even 4) in a group of 7-10 or whatever than 2v1 when one of youre guys could get dropped by an amateur in a sprint or attack (Sivakov). It was basically a 1v1. Now you've not won the stage and maybe eliminated your own teammates for GC.

They are lucky that Van Gils doesn't really have a team here.

Just hillarious to read, they should wait. Its exactly why they win the most they dare to try its nothing wrong with that at all, besides 2-3 is not that bad better than loosing to pidcock etc to and gave themselves better odds, basic stuff and it wasnt a lack of trying to get rid of van gils, he was just stronger, easy stuff.

If you've got position 2-3-4, there's a case to be made you could've gotten the win.

I didn't see the race, so I can't comment on this specific case. But purely based on the history of UAE finishing with a lot of people in the top 5 and 10, most of the time they did something wrong tactically.

they sometimes have strange tactics in UAE. If they don't win, he keeps talking about tactics. but if they had won today by attacking away from van Gils, he would not have said anything or he said great tactics!

Shame Leknessund couldnt keep up the final few hundred meters to the top of the last climb, but still a strong performance from him. Looking better than last year. On the other side Uno-X probably were hoping on more from THJ, he should've been in the Pidcock group.

No but isn't that my point? I don't necessarily care about the stage, Van Gils or Pidcock (even tho he didn't look that good) are always going to be favorite against them on finish like this, but now they don't have the stage and have put their own teammates on a gap. I don't think that benefits them at all. Is it over? No, cause Van Gils doesn't have help here for some reason, but that doesn't mean their tactics were smart. I think it would've been better to play a 3v1v1v1v1v1 then a 2v1 with 1 of yours being Sivakov. That's all. And I said it immediately when they attacked so these guys in here pretending like I'm saying it in hindsight... well..

Anyways. It is good from a neutral viewpoint. Way better for the race than UAE already in the lead of course.

MVG dropped pidcock with ease, and so Van Gils shows exactly why so many people think Pidcock is overrated as a road cyclist. There are many punchy talents out there who don't get ascribed "generational talent" status. The Alula hype was funny though.

I had to dig up a clip of this cause I hadn't seen it, yeah, I think that's an exasperated "you're a fecking idiot!" kind of slap. Me not likey, I think he should have saved that for when they both crossed the finish line. Then they could have gotten into one of those proper cyclist fights that always manage to look quite silly.
