That's why I used the word "becoming". And it's not like he won against complete nobodies. The way he won these stages is a clear sign of great potential. Not all riders are super talented and start winning big races from the age of 22. These stage wins are a new, nice step in his progression
He is finished in Burgos now as he is heading back to Belgium;
"Keukeleire will withdraw from Vuelta a Burgos tonight. He heads home to Belgium where he will continue his preparation for the Eneco Tour that begins on Monday.
“It was always the plan that I might only race three stages of Burgos,” Keukeleire explained. “I’ll have a little bit of recovery at home before Eneco. The race next week is another important target for me.”
OGE have utilized Keukeleire well in the first 2 years and it looks like they will be using riders like him, Mathews and Docker to fill the vacancy left by Langeveld.
“Jens has certainly developed in the last two years,” added Sport Director Matt White. “He’s only four years in as a professional, and he can already handle a very big workload as we saw with racing the Classics and then going straight to the Giro.”
In the next two years, Keukeleire sees himself continuing to race both one day races and tours, with a goal of continued improvement in the Classics. He finished in seventh place at Dwars door Vlaanderen and supported Sebastian Langeveld to top ten finishes at Paris-Roubaix, Ronde van Vlaanderen and E3 Harelbeke.
“I love the one day races the most,” Keukeleire said. “Having many nice races in the beginning of the season so close to where I live makes them an obvious target.”
“We see a future for Jens as he grows into a leader for the one day races, especially those in Belgium,” added White. “He has a big potential for this style of racing.”
