Carapaz gains ~40s on Roglic, who would have thought that.

Well hindsight is easy of course, but I think you could get the impression that roglic looked vulnerable on the climbs before putting in his reliable sprint. And after flying from even before dauphine til lbl keeping that Form was always all but certain.

Roglic probably suffered from the bad weather, but he will have a hard time on the Angliru as well. However he can take two minutes on Carapaz in the ITT, so this remains open.

Crazy that a JV team with Kuss, Bennett, Dumoulin et al could just fall apart on what on paper is not a brutally hard stage. I thought that Roglic took red too early; now I'm convinced it was a mistake. Their TdF guys may not have recovered from their thrashing by WvA. :)

Carapaz otoh looking real good.

Must have been the weather and what ever happened to Roglic on the descent. It's one thing for Roglic to be a bit weak but Kuss disappearing completely aswell is odd.

Hopefully no illnesses here

Nah, just the misleadingly easy-looking profile meant Kuss clocked off early for the day.

Oh god not this 'jersey too early' nonsense

Why? Just out of curiosity. I'm sure there's lots of evidence to support taking the leader's jersey whenever you can, and vice versa. Or do you see today as just a one-off b/c of the weather?

Nice first week by Roglic, but I never expected him to be able to sustain top form after the TDF. I would be surprised if he is on the podium at the end.

Yup, I think it will be hard for him to keep form until the end of the race. TdF, WC, classics and now Vuelta. He's lucky that Tourmalet/Aubisque stage was cancelled, otherwise his losses could have been insurmountable. Glad that Carapaz is in the lead but Carthy looks very strong as well.

Ineos is on a roll. Carapaz looking like the biggest favourite now for the GC.

Impressive win by Jon in Basque weather and Movistar being Movistar again...

The though of Mr Bonus seconds winning La Vuelta b2b disgusts me. But then aagain Ineo winning 2 GT's in a season is real close. Carapaz takes initiati8ve tho and is attacking so if not him plz someone like mr gurner breakthrough and win

No idea if today was cos of the weather or not. He's looked strongest up to today

Yeah, if Carapaz doesnt win this race it will be highly surprising at this point. His on a upward trend and he know his GT-motor while Rogla is on the downard. Dont think Carthy and Martin has the level to compete, at least not Martin.

Podium of Carapaz, Mas and Carthy is my guess.

Just thinking . . . what kind of monstrosity of a dominating team will Ineos bring to the 2021 TDF? Maybe Bernal will be 2nd or 3rd domestique.
Bernal is still recuparating from his back pains but let's imagine that he can come back then it would be: Bernal, Thomas, Tao, Dennis, Ganna, Carapaz, Danny, Richie,

Carapaz is one of those riders that NEVER looks back when he attacks. My opinion on him has changed so much in the past two years. His shenanigans in the 2018 were really annoying, but he's winning me over.
He attacks constantly. He is a rider who usually, not being the most talented rider, does not give breathing room to his opponents.

I'm not that surprised with Roglič cracking. It's Mas that I expected to be able to keep himself close to red - or to Carapaz - at least until the late 2nd week....when finally someone unfancied take over:D Well, Carthy winning will be very much in line with this year's spirit.
