This top 10 has way more noted sprinters like Nibali, Froome, Kelderman, Contador, and Roche, in this literal order.

was this confirmed on SBS or so? Matthews didn't say anthing about it at the start (but also wasn't specifically asked)

I watch the Eurosport coverage - I don't post scuttlebut from the TV coverage - After watching the messy final, with Mezgec looking around in the last 500 metres it appears my info was wrong.

The 2017 sprinter field was also pretty shallow, but that was a bumpy strongman finish which made the lack of depth look worse

That stage had a punchy climb just before the finish line that killed a lot of sprinters. Today was a case of lots of teams and sprinters being well off the pace, there will be some difficult conversations and self-reflections to have tonight for them.

I actually forgot the small climb before the finish. However, the sprinter field in 2017 had 0 top sprinters as well

If Cort had won today - with Jakobsen having bad sprinter legs -, he could have been a threat for the green jersey, I think. It was a slight uphill sprint, good for Cort.

Yeah, compared to 2017, this edition sprint is probably less random, without Trentin anyone who's not too seriously spent from climbing could have won any flat stage. Now there are at least more teams with (misguided) intentions
