With the right form yes it would, despite being more than a 30/40 minutes effort where he excels. The problem is that he’s clearly off form atm so don’t expect anything from him besides hanging up there and not losing to much time to the top5.
Out of form in 6th place seems fantastic to me..
I expect a third week full of goos surprises from some guys, like Almeida and specially MAL.
Maybe starting tomorow..

Are there any riders who do a Pog like attack? It seems nowadays all we are left with are trains that try to set a pace, and if that fails that's it, that's the end of tactics.

Comparing to two is insulting to Evenepoel. They should not even be mentioned in the same breath...
True, Remco is such a superior to Yates and mentioning them in the same sentence is totally embarrassing. Actually it's an insult to have them in the same Peloton, such is the difference in class between Evenepol and Yates.

I'll bet the Yates 'positive' on covid was arranged discretely by the race organisers with the discretion of Quickstep team, to allow Remco to maintain his dignity in winning this Vuelta without Yates in the camera shots

I bet the reason for QS action was different: Yates would crush Remco in the 2nd half of the Vuelta, his number of GT victories is infinite times bigger than the Belgian upstart's after all.

Perhaps the most similar GT stage in recent times would be La Rabassa and Pratonevoso in 2018. Based on those I expect a much faster climb.

Penas Blancas is also as low altitude as you can possibly get for a climb of such duration

Why would anyone attack Remco? Most of the riders behind him would be happy with a podium.

You need riders going for the win to have Pog like attacks. Most of the riders in top 6 never had a GT podium. Mas doesn't strike like "win is all that matters" kind of a rider, so we're only left with Rog.

This should likely be a stress test stage for Evenpoel. For teams to adjust their tactics for the stages to come. Evenpoel will likely miss Alaphilippe and hence likely won't be able to put the bunch in distress in the first third of the climb. The bunch will likely try and will burn some matches trying to isolate Evenpoel. At some point Evenpoel will likely decide to act on it. Or will be pushed in such role.

This looks like a perfect stage for Soler to miss the break on, only to close the 2 minute gap solo.

FDJ will try their signature "send two guys with Pinot in the break" strategy, but Pinot himself will fail again.

The only one who can challenge Vine here is Padun if he has improved another 5% (and Remco, of course, if the break is caught which I doubt it will be though).
I hope that you are wrong for Pinot. I believe that he can do it. But the clear favorite has to be the best climber in this Vuelta, Jai Vine. He already won from the GC group and from the break. No reason to doubt that he can't do it again.

This has become the type of stage that is well suited to Remco's abilities. Expect him to increase his lead over 2nd place.

In theory yes but his best performance happened on a super-steep murito, where riding on a wheel had no profits and his brutal tempo dropped everyone.

and that is why, if he goes it will be on the 12% part with just under 3kms to go. if he feels strong and others are falling off his wheel, he will carry on alone but never going into the red.

i have joked many times about remco timing in terms of taking off his shades. however, i think he does that because he wants to see his power. if you look at stage 6 he consistently wipes away his wet computer screen. with shades on it is harder to read as well.

having said that, with diminished teams, i think the break is the favorite -- at least i hope so, because i do nt want QS wasting energy chasing the break for an insignificant win.

They will miss Alaphilippe on this climb. Every mountain stage without time loss would bring Remco one step closer. However if he loses ten or twenty seconds tomorrow the others will know he's vulnerable. Tomorrow will be about defending and testing each other's strength on a long climb.

100%.
