Valverde and Froome can walk into the sunset together. Its time. All we need now is Valverde to postpone his retirement so that he can lead the new era of Spanish greats.

Just like Freire, Sastre or Contador.Just a shame none of them are on a Spanish team right now.
Well, I hope he did. When you have a chance to take time on everyone, go all in...I doubt he lost much in the last km from being tired but more like the finish was really a bit confusing so difficult to gauge effort properly. That looked like Remco went really deep.
No offence intended but why all the love for Meintjes? He's been a shameless wheel sucker whose most memorable moment was hopping off his bike and running with it up a steep incline in the TDF. I guess fair play for fulfilling a dream by winning a GT stage but meh...
He didn't complete the Tour.MAS rode to stage 19 and competed for GC in the Tour only a few weeks ago...much harder race and nearer in time than the Giro
Maybe because a CSS where half the field is completely tired from the Tour and the other half is in Vuelta prep is slightly different from the Vuelta?People acting surprised Remco is capable of this, a very similar effort to CSS where he murdered everyone equally as much as today. Not really surprising that the other teams dont want to chip in and help Remco secure stage after stage.
We have to give due merit when deservedNo offence intended but why all the love for Meintjes? Hindley is not putting out numbers to match his performance in the Giro; Carapaz has also put our bigger numbers in the past. Remco is the only one of the top contenders who prioritized the Vuelta this year, and I think that’s a big part of it. But Remco is also delivering GT winning performances, no doubt.QS has a pretty good support team for this particular Vuelta. Having Alaf to lead that final cat 3 and descent safely was a great move -- he dropped a bunch of riders. Not sure what Ilan can really do but with Remco's shape it didn't matter today.
As I noted in another thread, at first I was surprised at what I thought was the poor form from a bunch of decent riders -- Hindley, Higueta, Carapaz, Sivakov, Yates, O'Connor, Almeida etc -- but it really does seem that Remco is just on another level right now. "Riding yourself into shape" isn't an option when you're just struggling to limit losses....
All in all not a particularly interesting stage without Kuss...if he was healthy he'd have stayed with Remco, I think...
Remco in this form would've easily won this year's Tour de France.
Meintjes getting into the breaks regularly has finally paid off.Because he's not being a shameless wheelsucker and has this season ridden how everyone wanted him to ride while realising the success that it can bring?
Ehm, of course he wouldnt. Tour de France is entirely different to Vuelta a Espana - at least it was this year. The Tour was ridden incredibly hard, it was super hot and a couple of the mountain stages were attacked from further out than normally in LONG climbs.Remco in this form would've easily won this year's Tour de France.
The less draft, the better for Remco in this condition. When you ride like Remco, just setting a tempo on the climbs, its always better for the climb to be consistently over 10%, and when its a 15 min effort, all the better. No one stood a chance today, and thats not surprising given what we have seen this Vuelta and how he has managed efforts of this sorts before.Maybe because a CSS where half the field is completely tired from the Tour and the other half is in Vuelta prep is slightly different from the Vuelta?
You can find like 1 datapoint to predict this and 10 to predict that it doesn't happen so it's fairly normal that some people are very surprised.
To be fair, the MTF at Volta a la Comunidad Valenciana is more similar to this than CSS.People acting surprised Remco is capable of this, a very similar effort to CSS where he murdered everyone equally as much as today. Not really surprising that the other teams dont want to chip in and help Remco secure stage after stage.
Wanna see the Strava files to see how bad everyone paced Praeres tbh.Ehm, of course he wouldnt. Tour de France is entirely different to Vuelta a Espana - at least it was this year. No one would have beaten Vingegaard this year, on this route, with this team, in this weather, and how the race was ridden.
Absolutely nobody would have beaten that Jumbo team this year. Maybe Contador with 09 Astana team.Remco in this form would've easily won this year's Tour de France.
