Whether he is sick or not, I agree that Evenepoel's results are just not correspondant with a GV superchampion because of the demanded 21-day consistency .

This is a fantastic rider, that should be oriented to main peak in spring competing all classics from Strade Bianche to Liege (with the possibility to skip Roubaix)

and then attempt the Tour for GC but with the mental flexibility to change objectives intra-race if one day he looses big time.

Stages with one big climb have never been the issue though, so to get dropped on the first big climb tells us it isn't just a bad day. Even when his form was *** in Suisse he was going way better on the La Punt stage, which was harder.
That's true, but IIRC he only returned to the main group of favourites just before the top, i.e. he wasn't that strong then either. Maybe not as bad as today though.

Can anyone even challenge Kuss now, obviously Vinge and Roglic will just mark everyone? Basically it's up to Ayuso, Soler or Mas to do something, but I just don't see it. Unless they make a Spanish pact.
I can’t see Vingo / Rog ever being all-in for Kuss. Sure, it’s a nice story if Sepp wins, but I can’t see them both waiting around for him if he’s dropped.
