Remco couldn't drop them but this was not a climb to try to drop them. The only way Remco can drop Jumbo is to attack when there is no more than Roglic and Vingegaard, do a hard attack that creates some separation (not even uphill, just in a rolling part) and try to widen the gap with his TT skills. That really seems the only way and that's also the most difficult way to tactically pull off.
Uphill, Remco won't drop them (maybe the contrary). Remco needs an ambush, but with such a Jumbo team, chances are very slim.

By the way: Sepp Kuss: congratulations for that red jersey...! I would be super stoked if he keeps it until Madrid!

This is what he does best and how he wins races. Just a strong pace and ride people off the wheel, or at least prevent attacks, like today. If he didn't go all out either Kuss would go away or they would do a 1-2 with Vinge and Roglic. So as along as he has the power to do this he should do good.
I dont think he went all out. Nice tempo day, feeling better, over his sickness. Too many bees around and too short a climb to risk an attack.
Well managed!

Ayuso probably looked the weakest out of him, Evenepoel, Roglic, Vingegaard and Mas. You have to wonder if any of them will regret not even trying to make a move once we get to his favoured terrain.
Mas looked perfectly fine going uphill, considering he’s admitted that he’s not 100% due to his TDF injuries and training crash.

Going downhill… ouch. That was painful to watch His problem is that riders like Remco and Roglic are able to gain seconds every time there is a sprint for bonus seconds. Those start to add up.

Sciandri is lucky if they even send him to the Giro, despite his track record of winning it with the Carapaz-Landa combinations.
When it comes to ds selection at Movistar nepotism and tradition are more important than ability and actual results...
Yea but nepotism and tradition should also mean Lastras gets a spot, he's been in the setup for 28 years (Banesto amateur from 1995 to 1997, Banesto/Illes Balears/Caisse d'Epargne/Movistar from 1998 to 2015 and in the team car since 2016) and is actually a good DS.

Much as though Txente's work as a domestique was revered, the guy is basically a driver with a microphone.

2 seconds between top 8 on the stage says it all. Remco showed he did not mind leading up the climb but we don't know what Jumbo were feeling - just following? Glad to see Ayuso hanging on - could be a good sign for next week. Young Lenny M lost the red jersey but still did well.
