Well, for the obvious reason that there never was a gap of any seconds between Roglic and Mas. However, to officially communicate that there was, only to backpedal a good three hours later is typical Vuelta incompetence.

professionals would not panic... also the stage 1 farce is solely on the organizers and their absolute amateurism. i genuinely wonder what next stages will bring - should be hilarious Benny Hill level of comedy by the looks of it.

Well, the distance between the riders at any part of the stage is of no importance. The only thing that matters is the time difference between them crossing the imaginary line between the cones next to the ladder, as it customary.

Yeah... the photo earlier with extremely similar gaps between those 5 riders was clearly manufactured. You can disagree with the change, but 'clear as could be' is just unfiltered hogwash.
