I think more a prologue specialist giving his record in individual pursuit (European and World champion two years ago), but his greatest performance as U23 wasn't against the clock.

Yeah he’s good at all the big lump stuff except sprinting. We will probably see him and Mullen and a few others like Kung, Bjerg etc at the top of the TT tree in the next few years.

Not familiar with Ganna. Is he a TT specialist?

TT + Cobbled classics. Won the Under 23 Paris Roubaix.
Already beat Laengen in and over 30km long ITT in 2015 ()hrono Champenois Masculin International
2nd in the 2016 U23 EC ITT when he produced around 460W for a bit over 34min.

They've got his weight and height wrong, it's 76kg an 193cm.
He could be a big talent for the cobbled classics, mainly Roubaix, but he surprised me on stage 2, that was a good climbing performance, so maybe he can also be competitive in other one day races.
Of course we still don't know if he can handle the distance and a really hard race and last year he missed nearly all the spring classics because of the Track WC, this year the track WC is over a month before Roubaix, but I still can't imagine that focussing on the track WC will be beneficial to his ability to handle the distance of such a hard race.

I've read a few interviews in the past couple of days and Ganna was incredibly confident compared to last year. He said he was sure he could win stage 2, but mistimed his sprint. Not completely satisfied about his ITT. He will try to defend the jersey anyway, saying he's climbing much better than before having lost 4 kilos.

After San Juan he'll race Dubai, then focus on track training for a couple of weeks before heading to Belgium for KBK and Omloop. After the track WC he's scheduled to race all the major cobble classics.

Roubaix is obviously too early for Ganna, but he could be good at smaller cobbled races, like GP Denain or Scheldeprijs.

By the way, I am not sure that a reigning Irish TT champion has ever won a UCI ranked TT before. Obviously Irish riders have done so, but I’m having real difficulty thinking of one won by a reigning national champion.

According to twitter I was wrong and David McCann won the ITT at the 2005 Herald Sun Tour.

Delighted for Mullen, this is just sign of things come, when he goes on a full Trek TT rig the improvements will be noticed, cannondale won't have matched anything Trek are providing him

I'm pretty sceptical about the idea that there's much practical difference between the ultra high end road bikes teams use, but I'm more willing to believe that equipment differences matter in the TT. But I don't pretend to know how much. Is the Trek TT bike that much better?

Very good, I will actually be able to watch the finish ;) as I'm on an early-nights-early-mornings schedule these coming weeks

Hmmm, OK. I saw them riding diagonally across the road and there was quite a lot of wind. Didn't know there had been a crash.

Like always, Gaviria was the first to crash.

Hope it's nothing serious.

3 mins ago from QS twitter,
@FndoGaviria has been involved in a crash. As soon as we know more, we'll let you know. #VueltaSJ2018

From Trek Segafredo's twitter:
"#VueltaSJ2018 the riders have to cross a river and the race will be neutralized whilst doing so. Under 20km to go."

WTF?
