pedaling squares said:Excellent point. He only won the World Championships because there was a Dorito van parked at the finish area. Doping had nothing to do with his transformation from a one day specialist who couldn't climb and couldn't TT to a mountain-eating, TT-dominating, stage race beast. He blew away a field full of EPO freaks because cancer angered him and dammit, he tried harder!

flicker said:That could be a number of cyclists including Greg LeMond. My guess is Greg beat a number of doped cyclists including EPO users in his carreer. Also I do not think Greg used EPO. Ever!
Some riders develop at different stages of the carreers. I try to take that into account with Lance.

Enough politics and insulting other users. Get back on topic, whatever it is.

keep it coming folks, it's hard to believe, but not surprising to see some of the pro-lance stuff that was spouted by a couple of posters here...
I've read "It's Not About The Bike", "Lance Armstrong's War", "Bad Blood" and "From Lance to Landis". I know which really feels like the stronger case.
Unfortunately, there's more to a "negative" test than actually being "clean"...
The cancer survivor, I have time for
The person and cyclist, I don't
Back to the schoolyard...
flicker said:Call me what you want, a fan-boy clueless etc. I like Lance's results and the TdF DVD action of his riding in the tour the more I respect him.
Yes there are many things about his personality that are disturbing. The doping accusations are challanging to me yes....
I appreciate his overcoming adversity. I look forward to seeing his actions in the 2010 tour.
Polish said:FoxxyB, Lance was doping 93-96 also. So how do you explain the miserable performances during that pre-cancer time frame? What did Lance do differently post-cancer?
Buckwheat is mostly correct when he states:
That is the Number#1 reason.
Buckwheat is "mostly correct" because there are many other reasons also.
But Doping is way way down on the list.
Lance learning to watch his diet was more beneficial than doping.
Seriously.
In 1993 as a neo-pro, Lance would polish off a bag of doritos in one sitting.
In 1999 he did not eat doritos. Or at worst, weigh and consume a meager smackeral.
The claim that "Doping Transformed Lance" is a myth.

Maybe Riis?Polish said:Greg had been a Pro for three years before he attempted his first TdF.
Lance raced the Tour as a neo-pro in July 1993.
Actually won a stage before being pulled out of the race.
The writing was on the wall for the future TdF champion.
Eddy B knew it.
What other TdF winners have won a stage in their first year as a Pro?
There must be others? Awesome.

Do you mean, they slowed down in 1999?Eyjafjallajokull said:poupou, you haven't heard of the two-speed peloton in the early and mid 90s?
Ask Greg Lemond about it.
