Coming along nicely luckyboy! It's almost bringing a tear to my eye that somebody on the boards is building one of these up, was probably my favorite bike to race of all time. Make sure you find a long stretch of cobblestones for your inaugural ride, it's what the C40 was designed for.

2012 Fuji SST 2.0

Bit of an upgrade and better fitting frame than my 2006 USPS Trek.

Oval 330 Rims... DT Swiss Hubs ..... All Ultegra drivetrain ...... stock as a rock but really like it !

Sweet project Luckyboy!

PS: I approve the stem position too :D

My god, trying to get this C40 built is ridiculous.

First of all, I got sent a band-on front derailleur instead of the braze-on I need. Just been on a two-hour long round trip to the nearest Campag stockists to pick up a Chorus braze-on only to find that it has apparently gone missing or been sold. Now I have a 2011 Super Record  braze-on which was actually a pretty good deal for £90.

The original shop who are building it phoned me on the way there to tell me that the rear brake screw wasn't long enough to reach the thread of the bolt in the frame. The shop I was at had no screws spare  so gave me some longer bolts telling me that the screw will fit with one of them.

Then the mechanic who is building it up looked at the bolt and told me that it wouldn't work. After 20 minutes he realised that the other shop was right and that the longer bolt does mean the rear brake can be fitted.

It was only then that he told me they don't have a Campag 11-speed tool to fit the chain, and that he hopes whatever he has will work.

However, everything else seems ok, so I should have a cool photo to post in about two hours :p

That's a lovely bike! Will that be your final saddle height? Looks like a long way down to the drops or do your knuckles scrape on the ground when you walk? :D

Its not ridiculous, its typical. You're not allowed to have a C40 and have a smooth build up :D. Just get it right, go find the correct nut for the rear brake and if it pains you buy a 11 speed chain tool, you're 95% there and you're going to futz about a $100 or $120 (USD) tool and a nut you can buy from a shop that sells more custom frames.

Just been pretty tiring going back and forth to that shop and driving a few hours to find a bolt.

Everything is seemingly ok now. The guy was moaning that the front mech isn't wide enough for the Rotor rings but it changed ok on the stand.

Didn't realise ParkTool made Campag 11-speed tools. I'd only seen Campagnolo's own that are like $200 everywhere I've seen.

Haha, nah that was just after I'd thrown the components I had onto the frame.

Went with the 105, traditional shape bars work well with the hood. Done with compacts.

Basic build: TCX Frameset, 105, Velocity A23/105 hubs with Challenge Grifo clinchers. Probably will get some Thorne chainrings for a 46/38 racing setup. But for now, it's good to go. :)

Also, fully sealed custom Yokozuna setup. Suck it, Gore.

That black 105 crank looks great with that setup. Great job!:)

Fabulous build, classic. Good job! Saddle to bar still looks mental to me but whadda I know!?!? Stick a 25 on the back for the winter til you get used to the bike, that should soften up the ride a bit while you're doing your endurance miles.

Finished the 80's Roberts from a few posts back last week. Rode it for the first time on the Ipswich B.C. club run last Saturday. It is my "spring" bike lol and is a real peach to ride. Always dreamed of riding a Chas Roberts framed bike as a kid, so I've achieved something at least!! :D

*edit* It's not completely finished. Want a nice pair of wheels, Campag nuovo/super record mechs, gear levers, chainset and new paintjob but hell it's on the road!!
