I got one thing of note today... a copy of Lightroom 2 to go with my new iMac that arrived a couple of days ago.

Why did you chose Lightroom and not Aperture? I have an older iMac and Aperture 2, but I only chose this combination because Aperture is a Mac product. I have since read reviews and comparisons of Lightroom and Aperture and would be interested in knowing why you chose Lightroom. I am saving up for Photoshop because ultimately the majority of the tweaking is still done in PS and Lightroom/Aperture is more of a storage software.

I haven't used Aperture but I did consider it. Ended up choosing LR because of the reviews on POTN (good thread here http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=766277) and I got a good price.

You have all the general image processing adjustments in LR and a couple of nice to have specific detail adjustments such as dodge and burn and healing brushes. I don't like doing a huge amount of post-processing on the majority of my photos and my first couple of days using LR (had previously been using Canon DPP) suggests it's perfect for what I need.

Birthday cards for the boy, bills for me n' the missus, and an ad from a hospital lottery that sells $100 tickets and gives away a $2M home. Good cause, so we'll buy one. Keep your eyes on the forum for news of a housewarming party extraordinaire.

Dim, you must have reduced a lot of paper to justify burning coal. I don't know anything about those stoves, can they be converted to burn wood pellets? This is meant more as a question out of interest than a critique of your lifestyle.

we use mainly logs, just one scoop of coal to give it someting to burn off..
its only a small open grate and its only use in the evening, but its offset by the fact that even now we have the central heating virtually off.. so rather than heating the whole house, we are just heating the living room when we are in there, and the bedroom has electric blanket.. :D we can get either full logs, or weird small coal sized wood chunks..

and we buy eco coal.. it doesnt look as pretty but its much better..

as for post, well we get one bill a year, we dont get bank statements, we are on all the junk mail registers so we dont get any of that.. we pretty much only get what we order off ebay (and we are very good at recylcing all the jiffy bags).. recently weve got even less cos it seems our postie cant be bothered to come and see us.. my hard drive case is officially lost (even recorded they have lost it)./. we dont use aerosols, dont use plastic bags when we go shopping, recycle everything, compost, grow our own fruit, and we dont have a car.. coal is our sin..

Logs.. COAL...! Why when we were young we had to use our own fingers as kindling and then chop off a leg and throw that in the fire to keep warm through the night.

Luxury.

Dim, it sounds like your "footprint" or whatever eco-jargon is in vogue these days is far smaller than mine. Clouds disappear whenever I fire up the Hemi to take the dog to the mountain.

Only interesting thing in the post today is a 32gb SDHC card that I bought to stick in my netbook.

how are they getting 32gb in something that size.. i used to only get a 1.2mb on a 5.25" disc... (2.4mb if you cut holes in the plastic and used both sides)

What's scary is that Sandisk's new specification 'extended capacity' SD cards are in development and are expected to hold up to 2TB of data!!

i dont think i would trust something that small with 2tb of my data/..

i had post.. :D some licquourice root, and a new sata drive for the laptop.. happy little bunny now has 200gb

now just waiting for new external case so the 1tb backup drive can go back in a case :/

and then figure out whats wrong with the network drive.. stupid things all go wrong at once..
