Do you know if the rankings of teams taking into account the current transfers is being updated by the Spanish journalist that I can't recall the name? And if so, does someone know a link to it?

Actually it is exactly what I did and you can find the link at the beginning of this thread.

His ranking was a bit odd and ont really accurate with for exemple Geox sitting in 10th place with more than 700 pts

oh sorry, that's I was looking for, thx!
I mixed it with another thread about teams for 2012 as well but there was no teams standing so that's why I skipped the first page of the thread, thinking it was the same thread.

I think as you mentioned, that the computations are based on 2010 and 2011. Plus of course, ethical and financial considerations are taken into account.

PS : btw, do you race in France?

It migth be off-topic, but do you think that OPQS would be the team to beat in TTT next year? They have an incredible roster for that discipline.

Europcar have 3 nice riders in Voeckler, Rolland and Kern. That should be enough to attract any other riders/ get invites to at least 2 GT's.

So for now it looks like:

11 teams have already the licence for the next year:
Radioshack
Liquigas
BMC
Vacansoleil
Sky
Lampre
Movistar
Astana
Rabobank
Euskaltel
AG2R

So that opens another 7 places. The best 7 teams from rankings will be really likely and it is really likely that these 7 teams will get the licence as well:
Garmin
Omega Pharma
Saxo Bank
Green Edge
Katusha
Lotto
FDJ

Can I bet on this somewhere? ;)

Yeah that looks likely.

FDJ vs Geox for the final spot (depending on who leaves Geox). Surprised that neither Cofidis, Europcar nor Skil are in the top 20.

Their contracts expire at the end of 2012.

Saxo Bank, Katusha, Lotto, QuickStep and Garmin expire at the end of 2011.

AG2R, Euskaltel and Rabobank expire at the end of 2012.

Astana, Movistar, Lampre, Sky and Vacansoleil expire at the end of 2013. Radioshack's was meant to as well.

BMC, Liquigas and Leopard expire at the end of 2014. Also HTC had this contract length.

Thanks. One more question - that being so, why was Vino talking about Astana going down to ProConti without his points?

I guess if they lost his points they wouldn't be in the top 20.

As far as I undertand it, if your team is in the top 15 then you'll be WorldTour guaranteed. If your team is 16-20 then they are up for consideration for the remaining 3 places. Outside of the top 20 and you can't get in.

So from Nicosix's post, Euskaltel + AG2R aren't in the 15 but they have a contract for next year. If they drop out of the top 20 then their space would be presumably be free  The final space will be between FDJ, Geox and Colnago/whoever is in the top 20 at the end of the season.

16.FDJ 540
17.Euskaltel 459
18.Geox - TMC 419
19.Ag2r 412
20.Colnago - CSF 358
21.Cofidis 349
22.Europcar 343
23.Skil 262
24.Androni 213
25.Saur - Sojasun 209

Theoretically it all works out, but the fact some teams have long-term contracts kinda gets in the way of the ranking deciding everything.
I don't think anyone knows what would happen if a team with a contract didn't finish in the top 20. I have no idea.

According to Vaughters on twitter it seems that no one really knows what having an existing license means anymore so I think anything can happen.

Colnago won't stay in the Top 20 since M.Belletti is leaving the team with his 69 points (Some people say to AG2R or Lampre)

Glad to see I'm not the only one confused!

As posted in the Transfers thread, AG2R have signed Sohrabi who will bring quite a few points, so they are probably not confident of their place. I hope they actually use him and haven't just signed him to bolster their points tally...

How can they lose points?!
Edit: stupid, I thought they lost points because of the WC.
Edit2: Wait. Why do some riders lose points? I thought I got it, but I didn't, I guess.

They lose points because they drop in the Europe Tour ranking.
For instance Pinot loses 10 points from dropping from 18th to 21st and therefore getting 25 points from his ranking instead of 35.

I will edit the new Europe Tour ranking tomorrow on the blog

Movistar signing Visconti has really boosted them.
It's sad to see Skil outside the top 20. They really deserve a place in the World Tour.
