Andy was average last year. He can't climb outside July anyway. That matters a lot.

What's the difference? There is no one stronger. Define the best climber based on the Giro or Algarve if you like, I do that based on the Tour. Luckily all best climbers go there.

I'm afraid he is!

My list:
Alberto
Jesus + Samu
Iberians + Italians
The rest minus Brits and Frandy.
Brits and Frandy.

So you dislike riders purely based on what country they have registered to race under?
That could be called racist...
Also then do you like Froome or not?
(keep in mind that he is Kenyan yet racing under British licence)

He wasn't the best climber there in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. So I'm not sure what you're talking about?

All the best climbers go to the Tour? You know very well Contador didn't go to the Tour in 2008 and was tired from the Giro in 2011. Where was Menchov last year?

He was both 2010 and 2011. Menchov just creates some platform for more precise comparison, without being a contender for this unofficial title. His hypothetical participation would have changed nothing.

Not really. It's just that the riders I like happen to be from the same region (South of Europe) and the ones I dislike happen to be mostly Brits and some other Anglophones. It could have something to do with the discipline they excel in. Also my like of riders depends on the team they ride for.

Also you can put Froome in the "The Rest" category.

come on, you are cunning obviously. your attitude to riders is built exactly on how they treat Contador.

Partially. Of a lot of riders I don't even know what they think about him so there. Just if they're really mean I don't like them.

I mean, I like Tom Boonen and he doesn't like Alberto.

In 2010 he wasn't better than Contador. He got 10 seconds on him in one mountain and Contador gained those back at Mende. Ergo they were tied in the mountains, but Contador was just better overall hence he won the Tour ;)

He wasn't the best in 2011. He could never get a gap on anyone except on one stage where no one bothered to react on his attack.

Evans gapped him on some stages though ;)

So your best climber has only ever been tied for one month with another climber ;) Doesn't sound so great now does it?

I dare say Samuel Sanchez was the best climber in 2011. He did crack on one stage though, but on every other stage he gained time on Andy Schleck ;)

Pisti is right Andy wasn't the best in all those years. If he was he just didn't show it. He only was in the Tour from 2008 onward in 2008 he wasn't the best, I mean I think even you won't argue about that.

In 2009 Alberto was superior at least >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Andy.

In 2010 they were equal at best.

In 2011 Andy didn't show anything apart from Galibier which was a great performance but other than that he showed nothing.

So how you come to the conclusion Andy is the best climber of the last ten years is really a mystery to me.

Let's compare Alberto vs Andy

2009
Alberto >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Andy

2010
Alberto = Andy

2011
Alberto << Andy

We still end up with Alberto >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Andy.

Exactly Samu was the best after him Evans I think.

Hopefully its not just because he is the "playboy" of cycling as Phil and Paul like to say!!

Tom doesn't hate Contador though. He spoke out on his doping case once, but that's about it. I remember an interview of him once where he said he would find it interesting to have someone like Contador in the team to work for in the Tour.

What are there so many ">" for? Whereas a month ago we looked into balance of strength by pure time and came to clear conclusion. ;)

Also Boonen was one of the only riders to publicly state his sympathy for Contador's plight with Armstrong/Bruyneel/Astana during the 2009 Tour.

You are clearly trolling in this thread.

And by trolling I mean clearly trying to hijack this thread by baiting people into a discussion youve had with them hundreds of times.

This thread is called "who is/are your favourite (proper english) rider".

Why are you so determined to make it about how Andy is the best climber in the world. Can't you start your own thread for that?
