Without Remco this race is for the lower riders and it will be boring without the Belgian (at lest much less exciting). I think Yates and Almeida will fight it out for the win, but I can't pick them cause I won't be cheering for anyone from UAE; that's how my twisted brain works. Forget about Roglic, Remco drained him into crashing at the Tour and his confidence will be down along with his preparation. I don't believe Kuss can keep up. Landa and Mas will show occasional signs of strength but not enough like always. So my pick is Carlos Rodriguez.
Without the nr 1 and nr 2 rider in the world. Pogacar nr 1 and Evenepoel nr 2 its for lower riders and just doesnt hit the same. Nevertheless can still be fun but doesnt hit the same.

Anyway, we need to talk about boras true leader, alexadre vlasov
His record in GTs is stunningly consistent, IF he finishes. All the more so because I don't recollect being aware of any of those results when they happened. The true invisible assassin.

What I don't understand is how you can ride a GT 6.5 weeks after breaking your ankle. It takes at least 6 weeks to heal, so he has 3 days to train for this race?

Almeida's done the Vuelta the previous 2 years and been terrible both years. Not sure why this year should be different.
Almeida was sick last year, otherwise he finishes barely in front or behind Ayuso. Well behind Vingegaard and Roglic, but that’s not surprising while Kuss was ahead due to the breakaway and benefit of having the two strongest riders being his teammates and able to stifle everything until everyone else gave up. Almeida has also taken a step up this year, but he always seems to get sick.

I don't think Kuss put 1'23" on Ayuso and Mas on Angliru because they gave up. He was just stronger than they were.

It seems it’s going to be boring for you because you’ve already decided it’s going to be.

Last week of his GC runs, we saw CRod either kissed the tarmac or struck by illness, i.e. Vuelta 2022 - he crashed with Jay Vine and Mads Petersen; Tour 2023 - he crashed when front wheel spokes snapped while descending; Tour 2024 - his team claimed that he was racing ill and left exhausted during the last critical stages. Perhaps in this year's Vuelta Lady Luck would smile at him.

Kuss was stronger on that day; he has always had stages where he’s riding at his best and setting up or saving the GC for Roglic/Vingegaard, while there’s others that he’s subpar. Without the breakaway advantage he’s riding for 3rd and others are attacking him for that podium spot.

No love for Martinez. LOL.
I'd love to see him win and show this forum how much we know about Cycling!
I don't think many are doubting his peak level, that could potentially be good enough to win this race in fortunate circumstances. Although the Giro didn't really tell us that much, as we don't know exactly how much Thomas has declined f.ex. The field is much stronger at the Vuelta on paper. I think the main problem with Martinez is that it is hard to trust him to show up in great form, based on his history.
