So that was last year, and not this year, right?

Has Wiggins done any racing the last couple of months? I don't see how he can be a favourite over Martin who's clearly getting into top form.

He has raced Pologne and Eneco Tour.

I don't think TM winning is anything close to a certainty. I think it depends largely on Wiggins form. He's shown when he's at his peak, he has the best TT of the current peloton.
Cancellara could possibly grab 3rd, but I'd be surprised if Phinney didn't podium. Porte is a bit of an unknown depending on form as well. Dowsett could perform on the day, same with Pinotti. Teejay is also a bit hard to judge, but could be well up there.

<quote>One of the most interesting things to look for I feel will be the gap between Spartacus and the Panzerwagon. (Looking ahead to the Worlds)

At the Tour of Poland Wiggo was 56 seconds ahead of Cancellara on a 37 Km (Flat) course. (Wiggins time 46'36)
Cancellara Time 47'28

This is a slightly harder TT being 38.8 Km - I'll use Tony's time as a reference point for further analysis.</quote>

If Cancellara wins the TT, it is house on Wiggo time in the World Champs ITT

Wiggins is going to win the World ITT. Any avatar bet anyone likes (Yes I know I don't have one at the moment).</quote>

Wiggo will win the ITT World Champs. I am very confident of this.

Anyone taken you up on that Avatar bet yet? If not I'll bet you he doesn't win.

He'll be on the podium but I believe at least the Panzerwagon will beat him...

Tony says he is satisfied with his performance. He says didn't go full throttle.

can you give the link?

i didn't read tht part, i guess.
All i read was that he was certain that his performance wont be that great, esp with that cat 3 climb on the way.

Ouch - rough choice. Tony will destroy the field though, so fortunately not a choice I'll need to make

Hmm, what to choose for you...

Don't worry you won't have to decide one ;)

Pulpstar: your analysis further above - is you point basically b/c Wiggins bested Cancellara in Poland and now Cancellara won against Martin Wiggins will beat Martin (and Cancellara) in the worlds TT?

Well yes, I'm not basing it off of SBW's Giro ;)

I know it is a bad principle to use generally but I am applying this and also the Olympic TT/2012 TdF TTs for my logic, yes. Also Chris Froome's performance relative to TM in this year's TdF.
SBW is very much heading into pure TT mode now whereas at the olympics he was carrying less weight (GC mode). Also there are no downhills, so no chance for Wiggo to descend like Wiggo ;).

It's hard to use TT results leading up to worlds to determine the exact form of the contenders in relation to where they stand to each other. The main time trials we have had (Pologne and the Vuelta TT) both had courses slightly different to the worlds course. Both being shorter and the Vuelta one having a climb in the middle.

In the case of Wiggins in Pologne, Cancellara and Phinney likely were still building form (Cance probably being the one further from top form since he was going to the Vuelta). And we don't know exactly how much training Cancellara has been doing on the TT bike.
Cancellara has been looking strong on the climbs as he prepares for the worlds road race, which I think will still be his main goal over the TT. Meaning the climb in the Vuelta TT would have suited him and gave him a slight edge over Martin in winning the TT there. And if Cancellara's training has been focused on the climbs rather then on a good flat-land TT performance, then we can assume Martins form is very good coming only 37 seconds back of a Cancellara that is climbing so well.

What we can judge from their TT results, is the big favorites all look like they will be on form. Cancellara and Wiggins with their TT wins, and martin with a strong solo break ride and a good performance in a TT with a climb.

Latest I heard was that he's riding. At least Swiss Cycling has registered him for the ITT. But who knows, he still might pull from it the day before if he feels it might hamper his chances for the road race.

He probably won't bother with the current form of Wiggins, it's not like he hasn't won the WC ITTs before, the RR on the other hand...
