Because he finished 2nd in the Tour, in front of Purito. And everybody loves a pure climber like Quintana.

If you look at the third week in the Tour however, Purito and Quintana were almost as good in the Alps. And they both will arrive fresh at the Giro.

Yes; and because Nairo is a better ITTer and has a better team for TTT.

That said, I'd love for Purito to finally get a GT on his palmares.

I really had no idea of whom to put in after the first 4-5 names. I snubbed the likes of Kelderman, Dan Martin, Sky riders. Maybe they'll surprise me.

Vote!

Yeah. What do Sky riders know about winning grand tours anyway?

I still think the greatest ever will win, even though it´s 99.99% sure that he is not riding. But you never know. The best ever can even win with no functionating knees/legs...

1. Jrod
2. Evans
3. Quintana (will lose too much time in TTs to win this)

Jrod is not a very good tt'er either. Moviestar should do better than Katusha in the team tt. The only tt that will really be a problem for Quintana is the 40+ K one in the middle of the race. But, it will be just as much of a problem for Jrod...he doesn't do very good in longer flat tt's. If Jrod is able to do better than Quintana in the mountain tt, it probably will only serve to make up for the time he loses to Quintana in the team tt. Personally I don't think the tt's will make much of a difference between those two riders.

Let's not forget this isn't a 50km/h + average TT. It's rather likely to be in the 45km/h area. I think neither Quintana nor JRod will have a "horrible" perfomance.

Quintana to win over Rodriguez. But I hope Cadel can get onto the podium - Greg Lemond seems to think so (refer link). If Chris Horner at 42 years old was seriously being considered a contender for the podium prior to his accident than surely Evans at 37 is at least as good a bet for a podium. I think Evans has had a better preparation this year compared to last. He should be able to get the best out of himself.

J.Rod finally sheds the bridesmaid tag. Unless of course you consider the Giro to be the bridesmaid to Le Tour. Then he's screwed.

No I don't think either of them will have a horrible performance. My main point was I don't think Jrod will have much of an edge on Quintana in the tt.

All that matters is that Francis de Greef gets his 20th place:D

No chance, no phucking team of the "new era" signed him, so he is riding for Wanty - Groupe Gobert...
The "new era teams" including JVs trademark team rather sign suspicious guys who one day finish 144th, the other 13th in a GT. But hero De Greef, the constant guy gets no chance. What a complete utter mess...

Lemond said one or two riders usually emerge and I think that will happen. I think it's a very open race. Not so sure about Cadel. Love to see him do well and his last race was not too bad even though his TT was mediocre. If Quintana is as good as a lot of people seem to think he is, he should win but he will still have to TT reasonably well. Porte would have made it more interesting but only at full fitness. Rodriguez has lost two GTs he probably should have won. At his best he should podium but whether he will win, it's hard to say. Based on his Tour ride Quintana is the one to beat but see how he copes with the pressure and a very different race than the Tour.

I think it will be a battle between Purito and Quintana, with a rider like Uran taking the third podium spot. I think that Evans could be in pink by the end of the first long TT but I just think that Evans will implode on at least one big mountain stage. Overall I think that if Quintana is in his 2013 tour form he will win, but I think Purito will push him all the way :)

Also does anyone think that Quintana's lack of Giro (and grand tour) experience will cost him against JRod and other riders?

Did not seem to affect him too much in the Tour even though he was well beaten by Froome and Contador was out of sorts. Sometimes Rodriguez can have an off day in the mountains, I think this is less likely to happen to Quintana. TT is important to both of them unless they can put big time into their rivals in the mountain stages. I like Uran's chances as well and he is much more experienced now.
