what a strange thread. Sounds to me like a drunken seal has told all his mates he could win the tour de france and is now looking for intelligent verification of his claim.

Is this 200mile course flat, hilly, or what...?

Land or sea?

if anything the mental state of top endurance athletes is similar to that of special forces soldiers. in fact sometimes the navy has recruiting programs that target bike races tris marathons etc.. as they look for strong mental state more than anything else and endurance sport fits the bill.

There was a UK TV series a few years ago where a group of fitness fanatics, ordinary people etc were put through an SAS training course for a few weeks, and were eliminated one by one, the racing cyclist on it won.

Whats with the Navy seals? who are these people.? is it like US Delta Force but on ships? I've heard of the SAS, SBS, Spetznaz as crack operating units but I must admit to knowing zilch about them. And I cant be bothered to get onto wikipedia just yet.

Take the best well-trained person or athlete in the world that isn't a bike rider and they would not manage to even stay in a peloton for very long when it gets going at a decent speed.

Ok, going too far. The aerodynamic benefits of being in a peloton are massive - people have been measured doing 40Km/hour at 120Watts in the middle of a pack.

The best well trained athlete in another sport should still easily be able to put out 250Watts for a fair while, even if they wouldn't be able to compete particularly well in a TT or climb (before they acclaimatised to the change in sport).

One day, an eskimo was riding his snowmobile to work and noticed that it was running poorly. He stopped at the repair shop to have them look at it.

The repairman said, "We're kind of busy right now, but why don't you go across the street to the cafe and have something to eat, then stop back and see me in a few hours."

So the eskimo went to the cafe and returned to the repair shop two hours later. The eskimo asked the repairman, "What did you find?"

The repairman said, "I think that you blew a seal."

The eskimo replied (after wiping his mouth), "No, I just had ice cream!"

If it were those two groups competing in a road bicycle race a 200+miles long, technical race, who would win? Keep in mind special forces training (hell week as a major example) including strength and stamina abilities achieved during this training. Now look a cyclists, who also train to a very great extent for races and such, have more knowledge of cycling then the SEALS, but might not have the stamina and willpower of the SEALS. Who do you think would win?

I have ridden against Seals, special forces guys tri guys etc.

Doubtful they say as they train for other tasks. That is in their own words.

To be fair, the race should involve cross training. Andy Schleck would finish an hour ahead of any Navy SEAL in a 200 km race. He would then be eliminated at the pullup bar. Lance Armstrong would, for the sake of Graham Watson and Wonderlance, waste all his energy in the 'running shirtless on the beach' event and would be eliminated in the pushup round. Vino would hold his own in the 'delivering precision fire in a rolling sea' event, until being shot in the back by Contador when it looked like he was about to win. Contador would win the overall, and then be eliminated in a drug test, which he would blame on having eaten a tainted seal before stage 16. So at the end of the day, the Navy SEAL would win.

Dude, look at a typical cyclist

.

If that had crawled through the desert into Iraq, Saddam Hussein would have died in the first Gulf war -- of laughter.

On the other hand,
navy+SEALs.jpg

these guys would probably need a steel frame to support all the weight. Upper body strength is dead weight on Alpe d'Huez.

See the difference between cyclists and Seals?

Now let me check out the 'babes' thread. This one has become a sausage fest.

Nice thread!

Oh I have nothing to say really. It's just that after a hysterical laugh I thought I needed to drop a post.
