I've never really understood this line of thinking. If you choose to assume Valverde had been strong enough to go after Costa, then he would have been the likely winner, not Purito, so he really only "did" anything to himself (or Spain if you want to look at it that way), not Purito.

There are plenty others I'd be happy with but I guess I'd be most thrilled to see GVA, Valverde, Terpstra, or Uran win - all riders I like who have good one day race pedigrees and who haven't worn the rainbow stripes.

I'd really rather not see Degenkolb, Kristoff, Kwia, or Gilbert.

If Bala would be in super shape, he's the ideal candidate.

The ones I don't want to see win: anyone who is primarily a sprinter, almost never wins unless it is a field or reduced sprint. Kristoff, Matthews, Gerrans, Greipel, etc.
EDIT: Oh and Sagan, just because I don't like him!

It's more a dream. I don't believe he will win, or even tries.

But if he's motivated, i think he can surprise on this parcours. And then he's got a bigger chance then Bala, because the latter one is still a favorite (and people will react if he attacks).

I'd love to see Taylor Phinney cap off an amazing comeback from injury with a win, but even a medal would be nice. It's a tall order and I don't really think it's going to happen so instead Sagan or Valverde would be a fair trade-off to me. I don't even care if either of those two win that much, I just don't want Degankolb or Kristoff to take it.
