FGL is talking about something you don't see happen, but do see the effect at the finish line.

After Quintana attacks, Valverde and one other rider also get a gap, with Wiggins on the front of the rest, being left behind.

At the finish line, Wiggins is right on Valverde's + other rider's wheel. So during that final 300m he's bridged up to them as they sought to bring Quintana back - pretty much going flat knacker (au bloc).

Slightly gapping everyone else that had been sitting on his (Wiggins') wheel for the previous 700m since his attack.

Why would Valverde try to bring back Quintana? Surely just let Rodriguez do all the work and then jump him on the line.

And Wiggins made about 2 seconds over 300 metres. Crazy stuff.

Firstly, thanks for finding the Youtube clip..I tried to find it last night but couldnt :)

It is interesting how interpretations of the same event can vary. Mine is totally different to yours.

Here's what I saw. A short attack from Wiggins that failed immediately as about 7 riders were on him straight away. Obviously that group created a small gap back to the stragglers.

Look at Wiggins face as he attacks and as he is caught. Mouth open, gasping. Look at his shoulders as he attacks...rocking all over the place.

Now look at Quintana as he gets to Wiggins's wheel. Mouth closed! WTF. If you think that is such an amazing attack from Wiggins (it wasn't...he can't) then why is Quinatana so untouched by it that he has his mouth closed then counters with a blistering attack that leaves Wiggins, JRod and Valve for dead?

If I was looking for suspicious performances I wouldn't get past Ricardo Quintana. Wiggins was way off the radar as was Valverde.

I think this is what I saw too.....the only caveat I'd make is not to read too much into the riders faces, but read more into what they are actually doing on their bikes. Valverde could have done much more, He tried to distance JRod, but couldn't, so eased up as he had a team mate up the road for the stage win. This allowed Wiggins to close to them, which was a good effort, considering what he'd already done. It'll be different today, I bet.

Its all based on training for the Giro, and there are signs Wiggins is adapting, but not evidence it'll be enough

One comment: Mouth closed covering an attack from Wiggins. So exhausted was he by Wiggins's doped-fuelled not-normal extraterrestrial attack that he was able to decimate everybody by a huge margin, immediately after.

But you are correct, he is unlike the Sky boys. Ive yet to see any Sky rider ever do anything that comes even remotely close to what Quintana did.

Again. It's amazing how perspectives can differ.

Catching hilsprinters like that. Well done.

With his cadence he would be great on the track, then, maybe, Brian B. would have known him too. Tour de l'Avenir is not known to BB it seems. Do SKY compete at l'Avenir anyway?

Hey come on Wiggins is clean. He only did one attack and as Dave Brailsford said 'that's the sign of clean cycling'. Case closed.

I wonder if Wiggins is upset he spent several years messing around on the track, when he could have been smashing the Cannibal's record for most GT wins.

He thought he was going to become a millionaire winning IP at Olympics. When he realised that wasn't the case, he switched to road.

Took him a good 8 years though...

it seems like you haven't watched PN and TA this year, nor the tour last year and alrgarve for the last 2 years

when did wiggins because the extraordinary contador like mountain attacker that his attacks leave the very purest of climbers grasping for air?

also quintana rides for unzue, accuse him of doping and you will only have ryo and pentacycle defending him.

Ah yes. I forgot. If a Sky rider does anything other than lose badly (certainly not launching a tiny (unsuccesful) attack) its definite proof of what massive dopers they are.

I expect he and Cadel Evans discuss it all the time. Cadel really regrets all that time wasted as a mountain-biker, after all, because of that he's only achieved status of GT winner and World Champion.

See, I can do heavy sarcasm too. Clever, isn't it. ;)

It's funny, on the main forum some people were laughing at Wiggins pathetic failed attempt to drop everyone. In here he is compared to Contador. The original attack didn't drop about ten riders so it was a long way from being extraordinary. The impressive part was the way he bridged back to Valverde and Rodriguez after they had gone past him as if he wasn't there. As for last year, he rode the last km or so on the front on Mende in Paris Nice with no teammates and Valverde finished about the same distance in front of him as he did yesterday. Plenty were gasping for air behind him that day.

Good point. It's a shame Wiggins does not have a plethora of Olympic medals and world track titles to console himself.... oh wait.

But isn't that what your man, Dave Brailsford, said? All the start/stop/start/stop attacks are a sign of doping, whereas one attack isn't.

Yeah but I'm not an Aussie, so you can feel free to diss Evans as much as you want. But I will say Evans has had the far more believable career than Brad 'I think I'm a mod, but actually I'm retro' Wigans(sic).

He was not knocking Evans - far from it. I think you might have missed the heavy sarcasm. And to be fair he did actually tell you.

Wiggins "attack" was carefully controlled. He throttled back pretty quickly as he realised that he was going into the red. The reason he was able to bridge back to Valverde and Rodriguez was because he didn't go with their acceleration and kept to a more constant pace.

I'm afraid you've exposed yourself a litle with that remark. It reveals that you are trying to play the nationality card rather than remain objective. I'm not British by the way. Not that that is in any way relevant or important to an adult discussion.

Right, I'm off. Think I'll leave this until next week at the earliest! I can see myself getting sucked into this and I have got something of a life that I'm supposed to be leading :D

Have a good weekend y'all.

We know that because Wiggo changed from Wigan to Manure in a flash and a fart.

For a Liverpool - boy like Wiggo that was a real bad analogy on his behalf

I don't think I have 'exposed' myself and if people want to think 'he's anti-British', then so be it. You should tell that to the Sky/Wigans(sic) fans, who use the' they don't cheat because they're British' stance.

Enjoy your weekend.
