Firstly I've never attributed any of Wiggins achievements to luck, so stop with the strawman. It's a question of spin, you're spinning it one way while at the same time criticising me for spinning it another way. Looking at 2012 relative palmares of Martin and Wiggins in the ITT you can argue certainly that Wiggins was more successful, but saying 'by far the best' is a simple overstatement of fact. Martin had a very good 2012 which would have been better without a wrist injury. Cancellara also beat by far the best ITTer in the TdF prologue.

So not downplaying anything, just applying reason.

Big mistake to apply reason to a sport like pro cycling. ;)

If you're not attributing things to luck I would suggest you stop using the word. I think you think you make a lot of sense, but frankly its difficult to engage your logic. Perhaps because you're not employing much.

I like how you say 'maybe I'm wrong'. Yes, maybe you are.

Look this forum tends towards overstatement of facts to suit a narrative. What I've done here is point out the flaws in that overstatement. You in turn have accused me of understatement, which is fine and dandy but of course implies you agree with the overstatement because I don't see you taking issue with it. So we disagree: you think he is by far the TTer in the world and I don't, I think both cancellara and Martin are extremely good too, which is generally the point I have been trying to make. In fact that is how this started: I said 'I think Tony Martin and Cancellara would have something to say about that' in response to that assertion and have qualified that remark.

Hope that clears it up.

I like the attitude. After all these discussions are all about winning. So since we've established my posts have no logic or reason and the fact that I am wrong, let me finish things off by saying that in my original post I pretty much just asked why you feel the need to correct these horrible overstatements. You know, after you made consecutive posts about how the TT yesterday was on his home roads and in London everyone else was injured. I just don't see what the point is and it looks like you buy into the narrative of the overstating side that somehow being 'by far the best TTer' would be a bad thing. Or performing on a high level would be a bad thing. It really isn't. His whole 2012 season isn't 'too good' either. But for whatever reason it seems important for people to keep pointing out things that might have made things easier for him. As if it is important to remember that despite all those wins, he wasn't necessarily better than the competition.

Anyway, keep up the good fight. I guess it's important that someone points out why Wiggins wasn't really as good as someone might claim.

Wiggins at 59.4 kms

Just watching the Tour of Britain stage 4 which I recorded on Eurosport.

At 59.4kms to go the motorbike tv camera drops back to see Wiggins who has had a toilet break and is getting back to the front.

The bike stays with him and then drops behind. Wiggins starts overtaking the line of riders and HIS CADENCE GOES MENTAL - HIS LEGS COULDNT KEEP UP WITH THE PEDALS.

WTF - THAT WAS LIKE HIS BIKE HAD A MOTOR !!

Just watched it AGAIN - and the tv camera quickly leaves him when that happens - it was so obvious - that is unbelieveable footage of a motor !!

Also interesting that it was when he was having to work his way back to the front.

Wiggins motorised Bike

Everyone's invited to my house to watch the recording.

Doesn't look like Eurosport are repeating the full 2 hour coverage...nor ITV 4.

It might have looked like a motor to your untutored eyes, but it was just a motivated Wiggo pedalling to keep the leader's jersey in the 4th Grand Tour.

4th GT, now you are taking the peepee..

Funny. Every time you see a minute of some sporting event you come on here and claim to have uncovered a conspiracy. You then always claim that since people haven't seen the incident you are talking about, they can't dismiss your claims.

I don't need to see it. Your claims make no sense. Even If Wiggins did have a motor in his bike it would either have been uncovered by now, or it would be a lot better concealed than so the likes of you can find it just by watching him cycle on tv.

Writing like this doesn't add to your point or prove your right !!

And unless you can provide some real physical proof other then "look! That rider pedaled fast for a moment!" then there is no validity to any of your accusations.

ok fair enough - I concede that if you have all watched it and his acceleration was normal I accept it.

I haven't watched it, and I guarantee that the acceleration was normal and not caused by a motorbike.

riding my bike today, full headwind, I was suddenly overtaken by a 70 year old lady.
she smiled as i gritted my teeth in the wind.
I sure hope she had a motorized bike.

it's funny, these old people on motorized bikes these days where you really don't see the motor anymore and they overtake you and you go wtf?
EDIT: this anecdote will sound familiar mainly to dutch people.
