You are showing a disturbing lack of cycling intelligence, but
ignorance is bliss they say, so at least you'll be happy...
unless a Commonwealth track cyclist wins the Tour, that is.
And Wiggo has no alcohol problem now, but he may drive all
his rabid detractors to drink if he prevails in this Tour!!:D

So Olympic track medals are a bit like UCI World Championships
then I guess, where in the last three years there has been two
Commonwealth winners as well as a Commonwealth second and
a Commonwealth third in the elite men's road race, not to mention
medals and titles in the U23's and TT's...so just because athletes
from Commonwealth countries are superior to all the rest, it in
no way diminishes the worth of the medals or jerseys.:)

Wiggins can win this because the best man in the race has to ride for him. He already costed Froome a Vuelta and now he's gonna cost froome a Tour. If i were froome, i might attack wiggins in the pyrenees

Yes those are the qualities of a man that has won six medals
in the last three Olympics (including three golds), set World
and Olympic records, won seven World Championship titles,
and already this year won the Paris-Nice; the Tour de Romandie;
and the Criterium du Dauphine. Yes fragile and insecure:rolleyes:.
Some real intelligence on these forums sometimes.
blah, blah, blah...can't wait for today's press conference and see what's he gonna say...!

Can't do that and take the risk of losing the TDF for Sky...he had to put 30 seconds into Wiggo in the ITT for that, was the other way round.

Aye, and Froome is gutted. That was pretty clear from his post-stage comments. Really sad

So in the post race interview Wiggins says Evans attack was suicidal. Then on Twitter "Huge respect to Cadel"

So which is it???

Logic dictates that it's most likely both ... unless you are a Catholic.

Most philosophical systems allow the option of considering suicidal actions to be heroic, and therefore respected.

And yes, he's fragile and insecure. Also has/had a drinking problem which was likely caused by these character flaws.

Grand Tour champions = commonwealth champions nowadays though so does that mean you don't count grand tours as meaning anything too?

Plus France, Russia, Germany, Ukraine, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Argentina and Denmark aren't commonwealth countries but have won medals in the events Wiggins has won medals in since 1996. Hardly a commonwealth championship!

I'll put it this way: no one really gives a damn about track cycling here. If you want to talk about it I suggest you go to the right forum.

Road cycling is much more competitive and has a life outside the Olympics.

I have no desire to discuss track cycling thanks, I was just pointing out the error you made when YOU were discussing it. Clearly all these commonwealth Grand Tour champions are getting to you so I'll let you off.

He respects him for going on a brave but little suicidal attack.

As indeed I do.

A more articulate reply here : http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2012/jul/13/bradley-wiggins-dope-drugs more in line with what he'd shown before that outburst, I'm buying it.

If I doped I would potentially stand to lose everything. It's a long list. My reputation, my livelihood, my marriage, my family, my house. Everything I have achieved, my Olympic medals, my world titles, the CBE I was given. I would have to take my children to the school gates in a small Lancashire village with everyone looking at me, knowing I had cheated, knowing I had, perhaps, won the Tour de France, but then been caught. I remember in 2007 throwing that Cofidis kit in the bin at that small airport, where no one knew me, because I didn't want any chance of being associated with doping. Then I imagine how it would be in a tiny community where everyone knows everyone

Has wiggins ever done flèche wallonne? He did very well today on the wall they hit in today's stage to cap d'agde. He managed to stay, almost, with Evans and vdb2 when they pushed it on the mont st Clair.

He never competed at Ardennes at full level I think. Wiggins already showed good signs on those steep hills at Paris Nice - Mende where he rode very well.

And wiggins would ride cobbled classics more likely than Ardennes imo.

However, Froome should go next year there :D

Give me a break. Evans was pulling for a fair bit before he even attacked to set it up for Gilbert and even when he did go it wasn't a 100% effort attack. Some people really lose all sense of reality during letour.

I agree that Wiggo probably wouldn't have much chance at FW, but it would be interesting to see him target PR. Boonen v Canc v Wiggo coud be fun :)

I would also love to see Froome tearing it up at the Ardennes next year, against a fit and on-form Gilbert, Valverde, JRod, Evans et al would be fun to watch :D

Besides, a wall like this after 2 weeks of racing bring forward different names then in a one-day-race like FW.

Recuperation comes into play...Most classic specialist are not known for their awesome recup. Gerrans f.ex was struggling while normally he'd be good on this type of hill. Albasini, 2nd in FW, was just barely holding on at that climb.

It's not comparable. Ofcourse Wiggins could do really well. But there will always be this 1 explosive fellow who would beat him in a sprint uphill

Wiggo's sprint has earned him yet more friends in the peloton. Luisle for one. Lack of class at its best. When you are a real leader and your team and yourself show such an enormous strenght (:edited by a mod:), you share the pieces of the cake. Thus, you'll start to be respected by the public, the press and your colleagues.

How I wish he loses this Tour !

well this is the road section so try to keep that kind of opinions on the clinic please. i edited that small part out since it was so small but consider yourself warned

I was wondering what kind of an impact a Wiggins win in the Tour could make in Britain. Well today it is the main headline on Sky Sports News at the top of each hour since 5 o'clock and as anyone will tell you, it takes a lot to knock football off that slot.

Not much football news today though.

The biggest one maybe Dempsey and Maiga makes Hammers move...

Still it's a good sign :)

Pretty much the only place in the world that cares.

This has to be one of the most boring wins of all time. I can't think of anything Wiggins did that's even remotely memorable. He basically won two TTs and followed wheels up the mountains...

Happily Contador and Shleck will be back next year and we'll have riders who know what the word attack means.

Enjoy your lone win Bradley.
