Contador is cleans:
However, very few in the team know the real values of his weight and watts. While other riders send their data to all coaches on a daily basis, he only sends them to his personal coach Steven De Jongh.

"There is no reason to copy Sky's model. We are creating our own system. Obviously we've seen what they have done, but we will follow our own philosophy. I have known the persons who have arrived from Sky, for many years. That [doping] belongs to the past. It is not important if they do their job with the right. And if they do, I have nothing to complain about," says Riis, who has confessed to using Epo when he won the Tour de France in 1996.

"We all know what happened in the 90s. If I was a rider now, I would live as they do. I was riding in the 80s and 90s and did what you did then. That's how it is."

So, when riders collectively seek help from il Mito what does the clean rider do? Yes, report to Steven de Jong, reknowned for his adaptive training philosophies!

Cleans I say.

I have no doubt in my mind that AC does something. My suspicion is that he now takes less than what he used to take, relying heavily on transfusions but... testing positive for 50 picograms of clenbuterol is like being stopped for speeding in a 16 mph section of the highway.

Get a plasticizers test in place, whatever you have to do, but please, don't bust people for minuscule quantities you know for a fact do not give an added performance boost.

I agree, if an accurate plastizer test can be put in place, that would be a huge step forward. There are obviously ways around that too, but forward progression is a good thing in any form.

if you really think about it a test for plasticizers is going to very difficult and not really workable.
To separate the environment use against medical use is not going to be easy. Plus the fact if they could make a medical only blood bag that would differ from everyday environmental use then athletes would just use the old style bags to store blood.

True, but I guess athletes would have to inform authorities when they receive infusions anyway

Still they would have to create a test that clearly differentiates blood bag plasticizers from your everyday soda bottle and chicken breast package plasticizers.

wow, dozens of outraged replies to Contador saying- cycling is a clean sport and there are some "cretins"...-

First off, I'm a fan of Alberto Contador. I don't think he's clean though, along with the rest of the peloton. With that being said, I think the reason that a simple statement gets so much traction is because it's hypocritical.

There used to be another 'Champion' that liked to point out other peoples faults. Maybe he should tread lightly?

Wouldn't the riders just store the blood in 'non-plastic' containers? Makes a test for plasticizers seem kind of stupid. It would be right up there with the BP. Good in theory but easily fooled.

I think pastro was slightly sarcastic when he wrote "dozens of outraged replies" :p

yes Flo :p
just imagine if someone from that british team said something like Alberto. not even the big guns, a quote from Deignan or Sutton would've been enough...

Yes :p
I think the deal is, with Sky, if they say something anti-doping, many fans, especially the new British fans, will see that as proof they are clean and anti-doping. While when Alberto says it, everyone bar some idiots with their head in the sand, knows it is bull****, so we just laugh, and move along:D

(I wish he'd shut up by the way, he's just making himself look like a fool )

No kidding.

Heck I wonder what would happen if jv said something like that...?

Oh, wait, he did. And a whole thread was opened.

If you are looking for hypocrisy, sure, Clentadoppucci is a prime example.

However you really need not look any further than this forum. Lol.

Interesting article about Contador for many reasons. But I was curious about his reported comments on the former SKY trainer de Jongh and his uptick in performance in 2014.

"He (Contador) once again paid tribute to de Jongh for persuading him to change some of his training methods, and particularly the introduction of high-altitude training camps."

Did Contador really not do high altitude training camps prior to last season or is this more PR to mask what de Jongh actually brought to the team?

Did Bertie just say that cycling is a clean sport?
