Here you can see a list of the best times up Ventoux.

Froome was 15 seconds slower than AC and Andy was back in -09 and if I remember correctly they did not push nearly as hard as Froome did today. AC was watching Armstrong and "helping" him get the third podium spot and Andy did some early accelerations but overall they did not push the pace that hard.

With regards to this background I don't really see Froome performance today as alien like.

Usually they don't include the lower flatter slopes at Bedoin. It's better to judge it from the 15.65km to go mark IMO.

Well, that was something else. I don't really know what to say. I guess the only thing I can say is that I would like to know all the variables.

This was a good post:

I don't understand the fascination with times at all. Unless the best time is by several minutes, it doesn't mean much on its own as there's just too many variables.

How long was each stage, how hard was it ridden up until that point, how many riders in the group, what's the temperature, what about the wind, what was happening with the GC at that point? What pillows were they sleeping on, did they have mood lighting on the bus? And so on.

In '09, Contador/Schleck spent half the time looking at each other and they're still faster than '00 Pantani/Armstrong who spent the whole time trying to gap one another. What does that mean?

Like I said, not much.

Futhermore, I'd like to hear you view on my post regarding Cadel and Froome.

Contador and Valverde should retire.

That would bring you great joy wouldn't it? I attribute Valverde's Ventoux performance to the energy he had use in the initial effort to limit his losses after his mechanical. Contador's likewise can attributed to his effort on that same stage gaining that 1 minute + on. Valverde was holding the 2nd spot in the gc prior to his misfortune. The only reason I see anyone calling for their retirement is to satisfy their own personal interests.

I think that Contador could be clean after his comeback or at least cleaner than before. There is no comparison between Contador in Giro 2011 and Vuelta 2012 (even though he won it). And this year Alberto is weaker than ever. Andy Schleck is the other mystery - it could be a mental problem associated with the lack of Frank Schleck, but it could be something else (fear associated with getting cought like his brother). Andy with Tourmalet and Galibier winning form would surely at least match Froome in the mountains and the same can be said of Contador.

I suspect AC is as clean as he'll ever be in this tour. On Ventoux he was immense. He knows the politics and the resentment towards Spanish sportsmen in France. The French are sick of Nadal and used reggae boy to humiliate him on the final day at RG.

Contador comments on Froome

Reflecting on AC's comments, I think it was a sardonic slap at the UCI and the whole system. He said "you have doping controls, right?" They have come up with nothing so he must be clean. The hidden message is "wasn't it the same flawed doping controls that said I was not clean? Despite my arguments, you trusted it, you believed it and you gave me jail time". So good luck with your doping control system, it says Froome is clean so why are you complaining? Yes i agree with the doping controls just like you agreed with it when messed with me....

Ha-ha...good one AC...

Usain Bolt presented to Nadal on finals day at Rolland Garros. The French know that Nadal is doped to the gills and wanted to humiliate him with the most idiotic athlete on the planet.

The Spaniards had a good steak for breakfast. Nice to see the efficacy of a second rest-day blood bag live on tv.

definitely.

more generally, just look at the sheer density of spanish riders in the top 20. not normal.
i wonder how anybody who believes in a clean peloton is going to explain the total lack of french riders in the top vs. the dominance of spain.
not normal.

Meh. ASO will just trot out Hinault. He will start up his usual "they are overpaid and lazy" spiel.

France's a priori best bet for a top 10 is currently being a shadow of his former self (just like the rest of his team) after a cortisol scare.

Of course AC and all the other juiced Spaniards are being destroyed at the moment ...

Anti-juicing authorities remain a joke in any event and simply exist to offer hope to those who are too lazy to find a proper religion. AC is just playing the game at the moment and will not go FR between now and Paris.

Yes, I must say that it looks like Contador and the other Spaniards are getting stronger by the day. In saying that I will give Rodriguez the benefit of the doubt on doping.

I remember after the first stage in the Pyrenees (Ax 3 Domaines) when Contador said he will "get stronger as the race progresses". At that time I honestly thought that Contador would be lucky to finish inside the top 10 overall. He really struggled to hold his teammates (Roman Kruezinger) wheel.

Following the stage Contador was questioned about whether cycling fans could believe that his previous Grand Tour victories were acheved clean. Contador off course denied any wrong doing saying that "I have never, ever taken PED's".

I think it looks pretty obvious that Contador must have said to himself "enough of this bread and water, I can barely keep up with my teammate, this is embaressing for me. It's time to get serious".

Seriously, Contador's performance improvement has been highly suspicious of foul play.

Ya, after that stage Contador called Macarena and told her:

"Hey honey, remember those 3 blood bags i have in the freezer? No? They are on a paper bag on top of the frozen rabbits from the last hunting season. Yes Macarena, those blood bags. . . . Anyway you pick them up and microwave them for 3 minutes then put them in some ice and bring them to me. I wasn't counting on using them but desperate times call for desperate measures. Ok Macarena see you tomorrow, love you."

You can't simply decide to dope half way during a GT. . .

and you think the Saxo/contador doping regime is random?
