This is men’s WT cycling in 2024, the circuit will be selective enough. Only question is what groups will go when and can anyone separate from Pogacar.

I don't see how non-climbers can keep up on that long uphill section, if it is raced hard. The climbers would do well do shed the powerhouses there and not let them return afterwards.

If it's anything like the other races, MVDP should win this easily. He just doesn't need to do anything, and then win in the final sprint.

assuming the race is controlled until last 50k, remco and tadej split gold an silver between them. if they play against each other, mvdp wins.

Who wins a two up sprint between Remco and Tadej ? The betting odds are part of the answer. But I don't think it will come down to that. I think Pogacar will get away from Remco and MVdP on the 3rd last lap of the city circuit and Pog haters will then have about two hours to contemplate the inevitable.

Obviously I hope for no crashes but it looks like it will be a dry race which is a relief.

The only way Remco beats Pog is by dropping him in a long range attack which is unlikely. So on that basis I don’t expect Remco to be world champion by tomorrow evening. I think MVDP could win it in a 2 up sprint.

1. MVDP
2. Pog
3. Remco

Do we think any chance of an outsider (relative to Pog and Remco anyway) doing well? I was thinking someone like Hirschi could be a threat here with the form he's in, or maybe Van Gils, Ala, Bilbao sort of guys could cause an upset and beat one of Remco or Pog

I could totally see a group of "secondary riders" getting away (say Maduas, Schmid, Powless...) and someone staying away. I don't think it's unreasonable to put small bet on someone like Mauro Schmid on 120/1.

Looking at his results over the last few years, Schmid somehow finding a way to finish 2nd is far more likely to happen than actually winning.

As an outsider Van Gils has much to admire. This of course is on assumption pog and Remco neuter each other. I think this is a possibility. The more likely outcome is obviously pog and Remco getting away

It’s time to bet the house on Hirschi. After a stellar late summer, in his home Worlds he will go in an early move for glory 4 laps out that never gets caught and will break free on the final crest of Witikon.
