I've seen the finish and there's just no way Cavendish will win this. He would have to be better shape than he was in M-SR 2009 and that just won't happen. Great Britain should support Geraint Thomas instead, he could perhaps do something here.

the thing I thought when I seen the finish is Cav will have to.be absolutely on fire and GT could top 5 if things go his way but If he doesnt have to ride for Thor , EBH will be the favourite.

Selectie Colombia voor het WK in Kopenhagen
Rigoberto Urán (Sky), Fabio Duarte (Geox-TMC), José Serpa (Androni), Leonardo Duque (Cofidis), Iván Mauricio Casas (Boyacá) en Miguel Rubiano (D'Angelo & Antenucci)

Casas and Duarte will do itt

very strong team, although the course sucks for them of course. surprises me duarte is selected for itt instead of uran. also I think casas is pan-american itt champ so they could get a 3rd guy to ride itt like uran or serpa

Bos and Van Hummel (sorry TRDean) after 260k isn't even funny. That's just sad.

Its not sad :) I've learned to have a think skin regarding being a Skil/van Hummel fan. I've always been a fan of the little guy. For me it is more I am hoping van Hummel at least gets a ride.

Wow, Petacchi and Bennati were really one or two levels below Degenkolb and Sagan on today's Vuelta finish. Poor Paolo Bettini. Will he bring Bennati, Viviani and Modolo and just see who has the legs in the finale?

No race radios, right?

No race radios, right? So they need a good road captain to make the decision for the finale.

I think that 260km will even it up for the older boys. Never be writing off Sagan though, that's for sure. If I were to pick three favourites right now I'd say Gilbert, Sagan and Hushovd.

Italian team is very hard to select.

Cunego
Visconti
Oss

3 of:

Gavazzi
Modolo
Petacchi
Bennati
Viviani
Ferrari

3 of:

Gatto
Marcato
Carrara
Cataldo
Santambrogio
Quinziato
etc, plenty of names you could throw in here.

Cunego no way to be in!

Something not quite right about those calculations, mathematically to start with :)

I would say Hushovd is probably the favourite.
Sagan is going to be an unknown quantity at the finish after that 260km, though he was only 27" down after 298km in Sanremo this year.
Gilbert's year is next year I think, unless he can hold an attack.

But I agree that those are probably the big 3 names to beat.

I didn't the calculation :D
it is just a list of riders that are sure to be in, maybe to be in, and "could" be in.
Anyway, if it is 9.6 riders, I was quite close :D

What about Ballan in the Italian team. Also Nibali rode last year and he could be doing it ( late break so they can attack as they don't have a sprinter who is guaranteed victory ). I think Australia and Germany for she reason will have the strongest teams over Spain and Italy. Both of the 2 countries that i say are stronger have great sprinters who have been winning this year. Bennati has not won anything at a GT this year, neither has Modolo. Spain has Osar but he might be too tired/ out of form. GBR will have a strong team but will have to chase most of the day. Belgium will have a nice team for Gilbert but have to make it hard . Slovakia and Norway will have nice small teams.

You would think that Rojas will be the Plan B for Spain, even if they are saying that all their chips are on Freire.

What about Ventoso as well? His form is rather unknown at the moment but it was formidable earlier in the season and the finish rather suits him IMHO. Has he raced recently?

Ventoso wanted to sit it out I think. Started racing in January and has done 2 GT's. Fair enough I think although yeah, would've like to have seen how well he'd do.

So in terms of tactics what do people think will be teams plans?

I think if GB, USA, Germany, Italy and maybe Spain and Belgium are riding for either a sprint or a hard last km and enough GB riders can stick at the front this could improve Cavs chances (or even give Thomas, maybe Millar? a shot at it).
