Paolo Bettini already making alliances it seems :p He doesn't want to see his successor any longer without the rainbow jersey hah
i give up.

Why on earth is Marcato not even preselected by Bettini? He's easily one of Italy's best 5 riders on this kind of circuit.
Agree. I'd prolly put Pozzato in the squad as well, just because of his pedigree, but few wil agree with that.

If anyone wants to know what Bettini really said, he said he will help the Belgian team make the race hard for Philippe Gilbert and Daniele Bennati.

So Bettini will use his four other sprinters to "make the race hard" for Bennati?

It's even flatter than Zolder 2002. What are you expecting? Basso and Nibali? Scarponi? Petacchi? Pozzato?

Oh wait, no cyclists with doping past and Pozzato was out for too long.

Pim Ligthart, if he is in top form. I have zero faith in Lars Boom unless we're talking about a prologue.
I'm not really a Boom fan either (I get the idea that Boom fans are actually quite scarce?) but having seen him in Roubaix I certainly think that he could eventually play a role.

But contrary to you I have no faith in Ligthart, who could barely outsprint Bram Tankink in the Nationals ;) If Mollema didn't get cramped up I think he would have beaten Pim.

I like Boom.

In cyclocross
(and in stage races like Tour of Belgium, if he ever gets decent on the hills again)

Boom could go well on this terrain but lacks the sprinting speed. Maybe a solo break unless if he has to lead out ( insert name of a dutch sprinter who can win )???

Van Hummel would be thier best bet in a biggish sprint - he's been going well.

Kevin de Weert? What the hell... I'd have put Van Marcke and Monfort instead of Kevin de Weert and Nick Nuyens.

Dutch selection

Road race: Gesink, Boom, Mollema, Tjallingii, Weening, Ligthart, Poels, Hoogerland, Terpstra
TT: Clement and Westra

Meh shows what I know. Ligthart it is. They must be hoping for a really hard race though.

They will provide entertainment with hopefully countless attacks, and then in the last 3km our role is played. Shows over folks, nothing to see here :p
Come on, Gesink or Boom might be able to follow Gilbert when he goes in the final climb! And if he's there Ligthart might get a top-10 or something. Maybe pull an Andrej Hauptman.

Lol. that looks terrible.

Hey now, it's clear we have a secret strategy. Clearly Leo van Vliet is counting on a massive earthquake to happen. Something on 18.4 on the richter scale, which will cause a mountain of 1500m to erupt out of nowhere in Copenhagen. Then we'll see who has the best selection

What climb? It's going to be Zolder all over again unless the weather is crappy...

Speaking of which, I heard some silly story about there being plans to build a mountain near Amsterdam?

Spanish RR squad: Oscar Freire, Carlos Barredo, Juan Manuel Garate, Luis Leon Sanchez, Imanol Erviti, Pablo Lastras, José Joaquin Rojas, Juan Antonio Flecha and Vicente Reynes.

“Everybody will have to ride at different phases of the race, while Reynes and Rojas should be there in the finale. Not so much to lead out Freire as to be attentive to the breaks that could form with people like Gilbert.”

TT: Jonathan Castroviejo (Euskaltel-Euskadi) and Gesù Herrada (Movistar).

German squad [edit] longlist: Marcus Burghardt, Gerald Ciolek, John Degenkolb, Tony Martin, Bert Grabsch, Danilo Hondo, Marcel Kittel, Andreas Klier, Christian Knees, Paul Martens, Marcel Sieberg, André Greipel, Robert Wagner and Fabian Wegmann.
