Does anyone know how much time on the peloton had Kreuziger at the start of the Cauberg or therabouts? He won with 22s and the CN article says he was told he had 15s at the base of the Cauberg. Surely he didn't go the climb and finishing flat faster than Gilbert and the chasing group?

He had 30 secs going in, was cut to 10 by the top of it then Gilbert etc dithered.

I've always wondered, and especially now that the Vuelta a Castilla y León has been raced again, if it would be so difficult to simply put sensors on the riders' bikes and then a couple of pick-up points along the road, including of course on the finish line, so that we had instant knowledge of the standings/results.

With the transponders (they already have them, although they are seldom used for the kind of instantaneous results that we get at País Vasco or Castilla y León) there ought to be nothing stopping this. After all, we see the same kind of 'real time' data going past timechecks in every single event on the cross-country skiing/biathlon/nordic combined calendar. We saw it in Mendrisio and Geelong at the Worlds as well, so it's clearly not impossible for cycling. Maybe financial constraints make it a bit difficult to do every kilometre or what have you, but certainly on events with circuits you could have a couple of points on the circuit where the timings are picked up instantly. This could become a key part of coverage for circuit-based World Tour races like Montréal, Quebec and Plouay, and even a race like the Ronde, since they do the circuit with a couple of climbs several times at the end. Put one timecheck at the start of the Oude Kwaremont, one at the end, and one after the Paterberg. Let us know not just who's in what group and the timecheck, but how well they're placed in the group too - are they clinging to the back or are they having to fight their way back on, etc.

Astana baddest race ever. They have 6 guys in the front and did nothing. They can forget about last years success with this tactic.

Just caught up, nice edition this year. Kreuzi timed that move well. Just seemed no team had the numbers and/or the motivation to bring that group back. Could make for an interesting Liege (and Fleche to some extent, although anticipation never seems to work there these days).

Great win by Kreuziger, he deserved it.

Though, I'm curious what would've happened if Purito didn't fell. There were some Katusha guys left, and maybe closed the gap if he was still there - after all, they were helping the chase before the incident.

But hope his contusions won't stop him from riding Wednesday. It would be a pity if he can't defend his title. But I'm afraid his chances for a second victory are gone this year. But it promises to be a great bunch sprint nonetheless. Looking forward to the progression Phil has made by then.

TV coverage of cycling is so bad I've stopped complaining a long time ago. TdF is ok (compared to other sports), all spanish races are horrible.

Hats off to Nicki Sörensen today... 14th, finishing in first chase group!
He said he´s too old for riding the Tour, he and Riis maybe should rethink this, though I know a one day race isn´t compareable to the hardest of the three week stage races.

But Sörensen´s race today was as impressive as Tosatto last year in Roubaix. Just look with who he finished today, and beat also really big names. Strong performance, chapeau. A hard Dane, solid and reliable for so many years.

They would have done like everyone else. Waiting for Cannondale to do the work not knowing Sagan didn't have the best day. 2:25 to Asterloza with 25km to go was every evidence of a peloton that had little control of what happend up front.

I haven't read the entire thread but instead of the blablablabal whine whine whine people have been doing you could also say 'Wooooooow Kreuziger, you're the man. Great victory you pulled off there. Respect'. That's the way I would like to end my evening.
