The 100+ days continue and the low this morning was 80!

Ensenada weather has changed a bunch since my few weeks or months ago reporting.. It's @74 sunny, perfect.. But we had 11-12 medium sized clouds that blew away since this morning..
Wednesday night crit series looks like weather will not be an issue!! Lots of nasty rubble amongst the elite because some 20 year old named Axel is riding over the top fast..all the time wearing the kit of his triathlon club. He didn't get the memo about not being an awesome bike racer or triathalete but not both!!! Blasphemous..

I can count the amount of days it has been completely dry on 1 hand. Sure makes planning your bike rides a whole lot more challenging

We're back to normal summer weather, mid-80s during the day and low 50s at night. But wildfire season is here, a few days ago we' had some thunder and lightning, but NO rain. That caused a few wildfires in the area.

Knock on wood, extraordinary rain all over SW US and in San Diego county and N.Baja we have the end result of massive grass and weed growth and so far.. Thank God it has not resulted in our normal massive brush fires. In Eastern and Southern San Diego they use a variety of methods, but often aircraft that dump water and fire retardant. US fire fighters often assist Mexico when the fires are near the border. Mexicans use tractors and try to make fire breaks and they adopt a technique of letting small to medium sized fires to burn themselves out.
We we have 80 again today, dry wind, bad fire conditions for sure. I have not personally witnessed it but wildfires happen across the US and it's not something I remember in earlier years of my life.. Wildfires in Washington? Florida? It may have always been a common thing, but reporting may have been different, or I just don't remember.

Buddy doesn't have a good internal AC, plus he's low to the ground so he gets radiant heat too.

The cat lays in the sun by the French door.

The smoke yesterday was thick, but was better this morning...unfortunately we are back to thick smoke this evening.

What is this wet stuff coming down from the sky? Could it be, is it, is it, why yes, yes it is, it's rain!

Okay, it'll probably be just a few sprinkles that will last for about 20 minutes, but after so many weeks of scorching heat and bad air any precipitation is welcome. (I really envy the rain they had at the Opening Ceremony last week, we really could have used it here.)

I really really feel for you, but especially young and very old, hundred degree heat and smoke conditions and the particulates involved are tough, sometimes dangerous, sometimes worse. We have not had significant fire this season.
Ensenada is 74,clear, little breeze and no noticeable humidity.
Yesterday I was in El Cajon, which is Eastern San Diego,90+ ,sort of haze and no wind,no breeze wasn't that nice.
Fire outside of Chico is crazy bad..don't know details but announced that they have an arson suspect in custody..?

We're heading toward 100 again later this week and not a drop of real rain in sight, if this is the new normal I don't want it!

Smoke. We've been really lucky here in Colorado the last couple of years in regards to fire. That all changed here on the front range in the last few days. ☹️

No kidding...active fires in Jefferson, Boulder & Larimer counties! Plus the 2nd heat wave of the summer with these near 100 degree temps. Between the smoke & the heat, looks like I'll be training indoors this weekend.

I feel rather bad for complaining about such minor things when you guys are dealing with literal fires...
You know when it gets so hot and humid you'd almost prefer to get hit by a massive downpour when riding your bike, because then at least you'll just be wet in the sense of "Right, it's rain. I can dry myself off when I get inside." rather than wet in the "AADRRHHRR!!! I'm sweaty and sticky and YIIAARR!"?

I don't think I've ever been this excited about a weather forecast, there's an 80% chance of rain and maybe even a thunderstorm (with hopefully rain this time) by 4pm. So not only am I counting down the minutes till the Vuelta, I'm also counting down the minutes till it finally rains! (I swear I'm gonna go dancing in the streets nakked when that happens.)

It was always when not if, 78 degrees with @4-600 ft visibility. Don't know exactly where the fire is but there is a 1970s, 80s smoggy, smoke, haze it's really really bad!!

Most of Mexico is blessed and cursed at the same time with very rugged, mountainous terrain. There are no aircraft contingency for fire fighting. The ocean is close, but nobody uses it because getting the water is ultra dangerous. The small reservoir near our house could be useful to a fire helicopter but not big enough for fixed wing. In Mexico because of the mountains, lots of fires are just left to burn themselves out..
Fires further Northeast at Tecate-San Diego border are often fought using aircraft w fire retardant and water scooped up and dropped from Otay Lakes and Sweetwater reservoir.. @80+ miles north. Winds feel like from the south at @10mph..so there are many, many miles north of flammable dry brush and almost no roads, and roads there are are for electric line maintenance, TV ,Radio and cell phone tower maintenance.. You need 4 wheel drive, and there is no water close.

Instead of a water bottle could you load a full-piston fire extinguisher tank on your bike instead? Or, preferably both...

Edit - I'm talking about this kind of thingie, which I'm sure no speed freak pro would be willing to haul. But just for us mere mortals it should get you out of trouble if need be.

I didn't have the @$45 extra in my coffee money for the extinguisher you suggested!! I did ride passed the fire area, was probably half a kilometer square or less, a few structures which is bizarre, pump station outbuildings that are masonry construction but the roofs burned off!! We are back to clear, pleasant 76..no clouds as usual.

We have had between 150 and 200 AQI due to smoke with no end in sight (176 as I type). Obviously this is bad for many reason, but I have a three day weekend and likely won't be able to get out on the trails...not good for my mental health.
