At Under-23 level Visconti was winning everywhere and looked like the next big thing whereas Nibali that was riding in the same seasons just a good time trialist, the history is full of similar cases. Heck, Popovich looked like Merckx so dominant he was.
To be fair, Popovych also was 12th,3rd & 5th in his first Giro d'Italia editions (2002-2004).

Yeah, but was "normal" compared to his Under-23 performances, riders like Cunego at the Giro delle Regioni or Boonen at the Roubaix looked like kids riding against a pro. On a side note, in that period Giro delle Regioni was incredible, the following year we had also the mighty Antonio Quadranti at the peak of his powers showing up there.

Damien Gaudin retires.

The three road professionals with the prettiest shoulders were Engoulvent, Gaudin and MVDP. Now Engoulvent and Gaudin retired, and the man with the best shoulders still active is MVDP.

Unfortunately Power was never close to being the same after his health issues.
