Thanks. Porte put in a gutsy chase but he did the last lap on his own. There was no way he was going win against the other two who were able to share the workload.

Porte did do a fair bit of work but I don't know that Gerrans got too much help from Lloyd on that last lap. Gerro seemed to do the bulk of the work and had to keep taking over as Porte would make his gains on the few times that Lloyd took a turn. Funny to see the small Gerrans look big next to Lloyd, they were saying Lloyd is only 56kgs on tv, not much wind protection behind him ;) Certainly easy to spot him though in the not to be missed Lampre colours.

I really dont see Cuddles showing up any time soon - and if he does he wont be in any kind of form

Sadly. Would be great

Yep...would be the perfect course for him too.

No teammates at the business end of the race, but, hey, situation normal :)

the matty lloyd post-race interview does little to dissuade the "he's an odd character isn't he?" thinking.

"i was encapsulated in a weird set of events that resulted in me being behind" was my favourite line from him.

Is Daniel McConnell likely to move over to road racing or would he be riding the Nationals as mountain bike training? I haven't seen him ride before and he looked good in that strong bunch. The other little known rider to do well was Mark O'Brien for Budget Forklifts, he was doing a fair bit of work today.

I can't believe you don't know who they are Will? seriously, they've been around the scene for quite a few years now.

Either that or he spends a lot of time reading a thesaurus and dictionaries.

Uhh, do all Australians sound like the guy summarizing the race or is he just annoying?

Nice podium by the way, Australia is quickly becoming a real cycling nation.

Yeah the podium is indicative of some depth/ talent. They were the strongest dudes in the race ( each with their own tactics ). I can't believe Gerrans thought Sutton was chasing him. He did well though to get the race into such a situation but at one stage I thought GE would not win ( with ) Haussler chasing, Renshaw still in the group and Sutton on the early slopes of the climb clinging on.
Matt Lloyd spoke forever at the end, it was quite funny though.

Yep those did great to mix up there. Same with Ben Dyball, AJ, all up there with the big boys. Van Hoff too, showing he's not just a sprinter.

I thought the race was fantastic, was absolutely tired from night before but I managed to stay alert anf the ending was thrilling, any 3 of those guys would have been deserving but GE get their fairytale. They wont change the jersey much imo, raise the bars, put the logo on it + sponsors.

Will Clarke rode a great race too, he was in just about every race and Bernie Sulzberger definitely rode his heart out. Giacoppo may be hard done by not getting the last TDU spot despite the better placing but I think Bernie needs it more and AJ has a bright future anyway, can spend another year developing in the Genesys system, might end up the next Haass/SVH by seasons end. :D

Thoroughly enjoyed the race, lots of attacking glad I could watch it so thanks SBS, even if every mention of live overage makes you p***** off.

Roe is an ok climber ( in the Australian scene, overseas he is still developing )

On a seperate note, a very disappointing result for Alby today. Was spat out the back very early on. Had form from the Jayco crits and both Giacoppo and Von Hoff were in the lead group coming off podium results on the Friday. His 2nd at the equally tough Geelong WC course showed the parcours should not have been a problem.

Also Goss nowhere near his early 2011 form which is a good thing.

He came 3rd. Maybe he is just underdone ( or he did a bit of work at the start ).

Why is it good? If it comes to a sprint he is the only thing stopping Cav from winning.

Wasn't saying I didn't know them was just wondering if Daniel McConnell was likely to change to road racing....Don't know enough about mountain biking and their selection process to know if he is in line for Olympic selection and if he was to try out as a pure road rider, would he be good enough?

I liked the Greenedge colours, they were easy to pick out from the helicopter shots and looked good in the bunch. The darker colours on the legs looked better than the white panels that Cameron Meyer was wearing IMO.

that wasn't the final jersey, that will be being released just prior to the tdu.

I was talking Gerrans national jersey. It wont change much from the one they presented him. Raise the triple-band a bit and you have plenty of room to fit the giant GE logo on the front and then past sponsors everywhere, jersey done.

Yeah, if the GE kit is mainly black, it'll stand out. If it's a white based kit like the Nats one...then it'll probably just camouflage in ala the Leopard ones.

PS - Lloyd rocks! I enjoy his quirkiness :D

Lloyd attacks as Porte makes contact, but the other two stay with him. Porte attacks, which does little but leads out an attack for Gerrans. Gerrans sprints away with it

had buried himself to catch them, tried to attack but when he went did not actually accelerate at all. Could see his legs just went nope. aint happening.

There was a fair bit of that going on yesterday. The first time Cameron Meyer went past up the KOM he looked like Superman. The second time, not so much :)

It's trite, but you just have to see to believe it how fast these guys can climb.

Rode around the TT course this afternoon and it was fairly windy, tomorrow should be more of the same.
Will make it tough going.
