There is no reason for Andy to put in an effort. He is in the box seat. If Contador works hard, and blows up, Andy can go.

But to work, and risk blowing up and losing time to Contador would be silly.

I think we've seen Contador's cards, and they're not good enough to shell Andy. If he does get him b/c of fatigue from yesterday, it won't be till the Alpe, and Andy will limit his losses and still put enough time into the hapless Australian (poor Evans) to win the Tour.

again, not watching so relying on everyone's posts today .

i am NOT getting why andy would work. to me, he should wheelsuck on contador as long as possible so he does not risk blowing himself up after yesterday's mammoth effort. unless he's worried contador will drop and leave him alone only to be caught by the peloton and evans.

could someone describe how the riders are looking? does contador look strong or like he needs help? how about andy?

Because either:

1) He's tired from yesterday and doesn't have the energy.

or 2) This is a desperate move much like Andy's yesterday, and Andy isn't desperate anymore.

Also there's no need for Andy to waste a lot energy even before the Galibier. There's also an extremly long decent waiting to be bridged untill they hi Alpe d'Huez.
Besides that, as long as Contadors work is enough to stay away/make more time there's no need to help him get even more time since he'd destroy Fränks podium chances if he did.

So right now he's up with Contador, so he can't loose the Tour to him. He's infront of everyone else, so his chances are increasing to win the Tour. And by saving envergy he'll be able to react if they get caught, and/or has energy for the last climb.

But now he's working anyway to get up the Galibier. Maybe he needed some kilometers to get his legs working.
