You have to have the power in order to attack. If Sky goes in PdBF style..I don't know then. You think Niballi or Evans didn't want to attack then? I guess they were on red just staying with the group.

I disagree a bit. Unlike USP train, Sky train allows to attack relatively painlessly that we observe at Toussuire, Peyresourde and Tivo. The problem is the train has a very good reserve and always ready to accelerate as soon as someone attacks. As to PdBF,Nibali went for Tour for podium sport and the scenario of the ascent quite satistied him. Evans by and large never attacked on the himself, so that was a bit naive to expect attacks from a 35-year-old veteran. Chapeau to him for Croix-de-Fer move though.

Bad news for Berti I guess:

11:05:07 CEST
And once again nice weather! Sunshine and 16.5°C at the start.

Break of twleve, 1.30 over the peloton, Biciciclismo reports.

EDIT: Maybe not, now it's only Tim Wellens with a 55s advantage, maybe joined by Bookwalter (BMC), Damuseau (ARG) & De la Cruz (TNE)

Pretty strong break.

Best placed riders:

Gavazzi +3:26
Busche +3:47
De La Cruz +4:53

NetApp with two riders, perfect for helping Konig later (at least on paper).

Edit: Polka dot boy also in break

Guess the sky train order

With the Sky train expected to suck the life out of the stage, let's get on with the consolation prize of guessing the order:

Stannard, Kennaugh, EBH, Thomas, Kiryenka, Lopez, Porte, Froome is my pick

My guess is that they'll use EBH and G a bit later since they're both top 6 in GC. Might as well give them a chance to defend that top 10 position, given that Froome has won this race already anyway.

So imo Stannard, Kennaugh, Kiry, Lopez, EBH, G, Porte, Froome.

They have 4.15 at km 30

Erviti (Movistar), Paterski (Cannondale), Huzarski (NetApp), Lindeman (Vacansoleil), Busche (RadioShack), Teklehaimanot (Orica), Slagter (Blanco), Wellens (Lotto), F. Gavazzi (Astana), Rabon (Omega), Reza (Europcar), Bilbao (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Bookwalter (BMC) Damuseau (Argos) y De la Cruz (NetApp).

I guess you're hoping that EBH can make the top-10 in the Dauphiné... but come on, he can't.

Nah that is very unrealistic, but I still think they will save him for a bit later in the train, at least not use him before the climb starts.

88 km left, i guess an obvious Froome win, maybe Porte.

I'm still hoping for some Contador miracle today. I wonder what purito and piti are worth.

How could Cofidis mess it up so bad that they didn't even get a rider in 15 man break? Also, Taaramäe is having serious troubles with allergies so they won't even have a rider to compete at the finish.

88km to go, gap 5mins

Garmins team:
111 TALANSKY Andrew United States
112 BAUER Jack New Zealand
113 DENNIS Rohan Australia
114 FAIRLY Caleb United States
115 FERNANDEZ DE LARREA Koldo Spain
116 HOWES Alex United States
117 KREDER Michel Netherlands
118 RATHE Jacob United States

Don't think its strong enough to control the break. Could get interesting. We shall see.

sky will take over, can happen any time now. That's a fact nowadays, it's hanging on for everyone else.

We'll watch it and hope for some miracles but apperently miracles are no more in pro cycling. Congrats for the win Mr.Froome.

LOL, don't lose heart. The climb is not hard and a group of 10-15 can finish together. Sky can easily give the stage to Rodriguez or Moreno.

12:41 - Katusha shows motivation

Katusha has taken over from Garmin-Sharp at the command of the peloton. It means they have some ambition for winning the stage. Their superstar Joaquim Rodriguez said that he’s mostly at the Dauphiné for training, so it might be for Flèche wallone winner Dani Moreno who did well in the time trial yesterday: 17th. Last year, he won two stages at the Dauphiné but he was coming from the Giro d’Italia. This time around, he resumes racing.

Moreno is a pretty good bet for the win. Unlike Navarro, his time trial was a genuine effort and was extremely good by his standards.

a young guy like Dennis needs some support after his ride yesterday. Now its up to him to defend the jersey at the end. Looks like a good decision to me.

Of course other teams would prefer a different situation perhaps....

Giving him support in this case =/= needlessly wasting the team on reeling in that break

Katusha now leading the chase. Dani Moreno did the time trial of his life yesterday, will be up for the task today? #Dauphine

I hope so
