Hmmm, ok. I just don't think there are likely to be many teams interested in controlling the break, but a climb to Sestriere would've been very tough for breakaway riders to survive (unless a strong climber out of GC contention made it into the group).

As it is now, I could see the break having 6-7 minutes at the bottom of the climb.

Less climbing in the stage -> GC contenders have more domestiques fresh at the end of the stage and are less tired themselves -> everything stays together among the favourites longer -> smaller time gaps -> time bonuses more appealing

Yeah - break won't survive but maybe an attacker out of the peloton on the climb may survive.

Plus with tomorrow's stage shorter, it should motivate teams to keep the break in check.

no multi mountain stages... sucks. I hate these one-mountain finishes

Keep calm. Stelvio road is being cleared daily. Webcams today show cyclists in the summit.

pffttt, Michele Acquarone is soft and tries too hard to please the riders so even if it's a bit cold on the Stelvio they probably wont ride it.

Italian in the pink jersey and all the mountains become too treacherous.
It's like Moser v Fignon all over again!

The decision about Galibier has been taken by the French authorities.

Sonny Colbrelli (Bardiani Valvole-CSF Inox)
Luca Paolini (Katusha)
Matteo Trentin (Omega Pharma-Quick Step)
Daniele Pietropolli (Lampre-Merida)

Seems like a soft break, with no climbers in it.

No, it's just Michele Acquarone. He's very conservative as he was basically hired because his predecessor didn't "care" enough about the riders and their safety.

Has there been a decision made? My post was a little tongue in cheek.
Weekend is ruined

His claim is ridiculous. If the giro is so italian friendly the crostis would have stayed in the giro parcours 2 years ago.

Nibali could have done some decent damage to Contador in that crazy descent.

Btw is there a chance we'll ever get Crostis?

So amazing

Lol RAI motorbike disqualified for pacing some riders in yesterday stage. Moto commentator didn't look too sad not being there with this weather.

Crostis was cancelled because Contador was a coward.

They're asphalting the top. If they can finish it in time (unlikely) we'll get it in 2014. Otherwise 2015 I guess.
