general air of devilry on this forum

glad I missed it today

Impressive by Froome. All the work he'had been doing with Cavendish last year paid off :D

Posing a question now for all the Contador heads. Will Alberto turn into everyone's Little Spartacus ? Attack and attack and always come second but be lauded for the effort ?

In the words of Ricky Bobby "If you're not first, you're last"

Becareful what you say because people will take it as a bashing comment

It seems people can't take it if you are critical of a particular rider.

Enough with this, thanks.

We aren't allowed to be negative in a constructive manner here?

I didn't start flinging insults until Ryo started targetting me in defence of Flo's honour (Not that i had insulted her either in any way  )

Sounds like Ryo wants to get into a Flo's knickers with the comments he's making in this thread
Since you post not too much, for Ryo you are probably just a british fan who got interested at cycling in the 2012 Tour and completely doesn't undertand what the real cycling state of things is. :) :D Sky are not likeable on the board especially Wiggins. But Froome is associated with Wiggins and hence part of kind attidute relates to him too. Nothing new.

You must be pretty thick since it says my join date is 2011 just up there in the top right hand corner of my posts genius ;)

Just because i'm new to the forum doesn't mean i haven't been following the sport alot longer.

Doubt it Contador will win plenty of races this year, it dosn't mean **** that he got beaten by froome in February.
This could be Froomes only win this season for all we know, you talk like he is destinied for domination this season. No body knows that, that Wiggins did it last season does not mean Froome will do the same just because he shows som early season form.

Good point! :)

I'd say there is just as much pressure on Froome to perform this season as there is on Contador because of all the hype that surrounds him.

But early season results can only be a good thing and if he follows the same pattern as Wiggins did last season then we can get a rough idea of what to expect from Froome.

There you go!

Plus he hasn't won a proper 1-week stage race like T-A, plus he hasn't done much as a leader at a GT.

How right you are and probably Contador would agree with you. Imagine what Froome must feel, winning his first small race after finishing last in all the grand tours he has ever entered so far in his career. It will be interesting to see how each of them use this result to motivate their future races

i think if you go back through all my posts on Froome, you'll not find one reference to me saying he is destined for domination. I did say that in relation to what he could do with a full winter of training with Kerrison, then he had the potential to do a hell of a lot. And remember this was said in the context of posters going on about how Contador would just drop everyone on Green Mountain.

Little perspective here. I'm a gambling man at the end of the day and I'd never make sweeping statements one way or the other for one rider over another. It is February.

Froome, however has just ridden very impressively this week. There is no getting away from that. Next week I'll be talking about someone else.

That's not correct he finished 2nd in 2011 at the Tour of Spain and that is classed as a Grand Tour.

I agree Froome was impressive this race, but i also think Purito was good.
And contador was not that bad either, by the reaction in here you should think he got dead last. In reality he was the second best rider.

If Contador had attacked only once on the last climb, the Sky train would have wheel him in before the finish line. The result would have been: less entertaining stage and Evans would have ended up higher in the GC compared to Contador.

Contador did the right thing, but Froome proved to be the strongest in the race. Simple.

Agree,Alberto probably had better sensations today, but Froomey has been too good this week;)

Wow just reading the last 10 pages had my heart rate up :) Sounds like a grand old slug fest....I Love It!!!!

At LAST a competitor worthy of Contador has appeared. This going to be a great season, one for the history books and lasting memories if they both keep on like this.

Praying that neither has crashes or illness and throw it out on the road for us every time they meet. Add in Evans who seems to be coming back, Purito poised on the edge to hit the top step of a GT. Nibali while I Love his grinta just is a step below, like Ryder et al.

This is Great for cycling!!! In this corner we have FroomeDawg who wants the crown and in this corner the defending GT King Alberto....commence the battles!!! I just might die from excitement watching the battles; will need extra heart pills :)

Cannot wait for video!!!

Final stage:
profile-06.jpg

GC:
GBR 1 FROOME, Christopher (SKY PROCYCLING) 20:04:13
ESP 2 CONTADOR VELASCO, Alberto (SAXO-TINKOFF) + 27
AUS 3 EVANS, Cadel (BMC RACING TEAM) + 39
ESP 4 RODRIGUEZ OLIVER, Joaquin (KATUSHA) + 50
ITA 5 NOCENTINI, Rinaldo (AG2R LA MONDIALE) + 1:13
SUI 6 TSCHOPP, Johann (IAM CYCLING)
ITA 7 NIBALI, Vincenzo (ASTANA) + 1:19
FRA 8 ELISSONDE, Kenny (FDJ) + 1:34
ITA 9 POZZOVIVO, Domenico (AG2R LA MONDIALE) + 1:44
FRA 10 BOUET, Maxime (AG2R LA MONDIALE) + 2:00

I see no possibilities for GC action.

Goss, Van Hummel and Kittel to fight for the scraps perhaps. Alternatively a large break could go on the first or second little ramp.

Indeed it must have been a long time since Tour contenders were so close to each other in talent.

2007? 2010? By the way I believe Alberto is more talented but that could be just me.
