2015 Giro d'Italia: Stage-by-stage Analysis

Great work, Eshnar!

There are some very nice stages there, especially the medium mountain ones. The high mountain stages are a bit disappointing, but we knew that for some time. I miss a tappone, and the naked Finestre is a crime. It's clearly an improvement over last years edition, though.

Nitpicking ;) :p:

-general: Decide if you want map first, then profile or the other order. Don't be ̶h̶a̶l̶f̶-̶a̶r̶s̶e̶d̶ Parrulo and do a little bit of both.
-stage 4(edit:stage 2 obviously): Since the map of the final is already hosted by imgur, why not turn it 90 degrees anti-clockwise.
-stage 8: same as^^, just with the Forca d'Acero profile.

Other than that, very well done with it Eshnar! :) Just what I needed to get excited for the Giro.

Great work, Eshnar :) really appreciated.

This looks like a fantastic parcours, I think. A monster tt, lots of really nice hilly stages. Stage 9 (I think?) looks amazing.

The Giro must be the only race where an uncategorized bump can be 5 k at 5%, lol.

Theoretically, profile first, planimetry later. Where did I go wrong?
As for the rotated profiles, If I rotate them back I will probably mess with the maximum width.

I think this is absolutely brilliant work.

I am really looking forward to this Giro. Something for everybody, but not that many Kittel stages. But he had his fill last year, so tough!

Some of the medium mountain stages are lovely. I like stages 4, 7 and 9, which added to the two MTF stages in the first week, give a nice opening. 11 and 12 are sexy stages back-to-back, and along with the brilliant ITT and the punchy MTF on stage 15, give a nice shape to week 2.

The final week is not without its flaws, but with Mortirolo/Aprica....Finestre/Sestriere, the descent stage and the multi-mountain leg breaker to Cervinia, if the racing is boring, it is not really down to the course designers.

I am very excited, and need to think about the days I will be "working" from home in May.

Thanks Eshnar. Great work. It takes me more time to navigate on the official web site. This is better. I wish you could have put your predictions with names. I understand that when some of the favorites drop out or crash out then it looks funny that we are still carrying his name in the analysis.

Some average gradient are wrong but I know that is the Giro organizers fault.

Great work. One thing I'd add which would be of use ( as I'm fortunate enough to be going to first 10 days ) would be add date next to start time.
I'm looking forward to stages 3,4,5,8 live.

I wonder which of these Richie has penciled in for a devastating attack and where he will be content just to follow the other GC guys.

"then the climb to La Valletta (2.7 kms at 9.8%... no category, yeah, seriously)"

The Tour has outside categorized climbs.
The Giro has outside categorized climbs.

Both have different meanings.

But are almost as hard as each other :p

Epic work Eshnar!! Your efforts and expertise are much appreciated!!

The mountain top finishers of stages 5 & 8 aren't too bad at all, and 8 harder than 15; very surprising! So thanks to all the lumpy stages too, I think there will be quite a lot of action before stage 14. And if it rains on some of these tricky descents.....

Loving the new climb on stage 18 as well. And I can't see stage 19 not providing major time gaps. It's too long and difficult; saving energy for stage 20 won't come into it.

Thanks for all the work and your personal analysis. I think this is going to be a great Giro. All those lumpy stages with multiple short climbs are surely going to spoil someone's GC ambitions. But who ? I can't wait.
