Funny eh, the only two proper mountain stages are the most exciting ones this Vuelta. With the walls being super boring this year without Purito hopefully it opens Unipublics eyes to go back to the oldschool!

Stage being 118km "short" probably has helped today too.

They are also two of the most exciting GT stages for years. So perhaps there is an argument that having fewer such stages forces riders to attack - and they are a bit fresher to create GC action.

If there were 7 or 8 high mountain stages, like in the Tour, most of them would be epically dull, with everyone waiting for the next one and worried they'll blow up later in the race if they go too hard.

This vuelta is Quintana's now. Unless Contador ambushes him too at some point but can't see Movistar letting that happen like Sky did.
