If Campenaerts would have won ahead of Ganna he'd have gotten a lot of heat in Italy. In Italy altitude tents are banned for athletes, so people would have called it an unfair advantage or even cheating.

That's not the point. People have been correcting you as soon as you started posting your calculation, yet you didn't even bother checking whether your hasty calculation was off, or not. You just assumed you knew best and kept insisting. So you were convinced for two hours you were right, and now that it dawned on you that you weren't, it's "just because of a hasty calculation" of which you were so sure that it wasn't hasty or sloppy that you had to keep insisting others were wrong.

Only if they make that a universal rule for all riders in all topics. That would deliver us from the usual BS in races where Evenepoel does compete but "it doesn't count because rider A, or B or C isn't competing". We could delete 25 pages of the first 30 pages of the Il Lombardia topic.

Was this due to the wind, or because of Ganna?

Nope, that was Remco having a quick fly through to show all those wanna be TT ists how it's supposed to be done. You just didn't see him.

Well he didn't, he finished 8th, so clearly the altitude tent doesn't give him any advantage.

I agree with you, but Remco isn't here.

If we're going to claim Evenepoel would've won every race he was supposed to participate in from now until whenever he's coming back, it'll get annoying very fast.

i think if you look back at my initial comment, you will likely realize that you may have jumped to some conclusions. i did not express that remco would have won. i totally see that Ganna is on an absolute tear. all i was pointing out was what we are missing. remco has beaten Ganna often and beat Dennis also this season. so it would have been interesting to see what would have happened, that is all... kind of like the whole rest of the season. the giro is lessened as are the worlds as was lombardy. i will even go so far as to say that next year's TDF may be robbed of what would have been an amazing battle between 22 year old Pog and 21 year old Remco (coming off a potential Giro win). That has now all been delayed and may never live up to the potential if Remco never recovers fully.

i understand that -- on a discussion forum -- reading my post you may have extrapolated to thinking i was claiming remco would definitely have won. nope. just commenting on the competition we are missing.

:)

Ganna knocked the signs over. Remco would have obliterated them. Normally I have little interest in tt. As a maths lecturer, I've found this thread amusing.

Latest weather predictions for Sunday indicate rain only very late in the race or even only afterwards. Meanwhile, it is snowing in the Alps above c. 1000 m, so the Giro may see some nice scenic shots of snowy mountains riders can't climb (often though, there is a period with snow in the mountains late September, early October, followed by a period of bright sunshine with cold nights second half of October)

This week in bad excuses, Thomas lost his Garmin before the start.

"I warmed up on a different bike and then I got to my race bike and it wasn't there. People were running around looking for it… No idea. Someone *** up, but that's the way it goes," Thomas shrugged.

I'm not going to say that that someone was you, Geraint, but...

Yeah, actually, it sounds like that someone was you.

what happened to attention to detail/marginal gains?

Compare & contrast:
  1. Last week Pogacar ditches his Garmin to win the TdF ITT
  2. This week Thomas ditches his Garmin and whines in fourth

Men's time trial results: Italy wins overall and 4 out of the top 5 bikes.

Pretty incredible given that there's a common perception of Italian bikes as being technologically deficient.

Confirmed with USA Cycling's Jim Miller that Dygert's TT crash was not due to puncture or other mechanical issue. She took corner too hot, in aerobars. "She had a speed wobble going into the turn and wasn’t able to regain control. There was not a mechanical issue." #Imola2020

Somewhere, a relieved mechanic is making his/her way off a ledge . . . and/or no more risk of house/apartment being vandalized by crazed fans . . . unless they paid no attention to this forum. :D
