It is obvious I disagree and I just explained why in my post towards these type of criticisms.

I also think when you start comparing to other editions of a race you get lost.
I don't see where you address comparisons to other editions in that posts, only that people have unrealistic expectations (where you point out that ... people should have better expectations if they compared it to other editions).

So one should not compare it with what one expected, not with other races, not with other editions. No comparisons, no ranks.

Only total nihilism. No good Giro, no bad Giro (how else would you tell a bad and a good one apart, if not by comparison?).

I wasnt addressing or comparing other editions...

You can generalise without comparing?

If previous expectations generally don't match the reality of actual GTs (and that this mismatch generally leads to too much complaining), one should change one's expectations to better match the reality of actual GTs, si?

I also said in my post that people complain, even when things they scream for actually happens. You see the problem?

I always considered that a bit unfair on Gotti. After all, he still earned his victory moving past Savoldelli. Something Simoni didn't manage in 2005. That makes him the most worthy winner of the 1999 Giro d'Italia that was still possible, given the circumstances.
People were brutal on Gotti for years, the guy suffered because of it and was willing to give his Giro win back...

Because it only takes one person not being happy for nobody being happy?

I judge a race by multiple parameters. When the overall grade is low, I focus my complaint about the worst aspects. If the values change, but the overall is still low, I will usually complain about something different.

Equivalently, when the overall grade is high, I will praise the best aspects of the race. For a different race with different qualities, I will praise some other aspects.

How does that match nobody being happy no matter the outcome?

Multiple parameters, so cool.

"How does that match nobody being happy no matter the outcome?"

Was I ever trying to prove something? My original post was just my thoughts on the race and me having a dig at people. Which obviously must have struck a nerve...

Congratulations to Matteo Sobrero for winning the ITT with style and to Jai Hindley for winning Giro 2022.

I wouldn't say it was a weak field or that Ineos/Carapaz did much wrong on this race. Hindley experienced devastating defeat in 2020 and was set on not repeating the same mistake again. In retrospective it was he who controlled the race and not taking the pink was by choice. As the strongest rider on this race he was the one that didn't let Carapaz or Landa (or himself) do more. On top of that Bora was better then Ineos as a team. That is in strength and tactics. As for Ritchie. A round or two of polishing his Giro trophy should do. No special need to feel all that sad about it. Wins will come again.

Two champions.

Looks like Sobrero is coming to race on Tour of Slovenia. Landa is in my opinion now free. Nibali made a respectful exit from Giro. Démare winning by points, Bouwman mountains and López white feel justified.

P.S. Australia now has 1 Giro win and Slovenia 0. Common how exactly is that fair? As for Rogla getting mentioned in this thread. I didn't know he was a ski jumper. That was totally new info to me. I agree that he was missed. I would feel for Sobrero, Hindley and Australia, though.

According to procyclingstats the only ones that changed positions were Carthy and Lopez. Everyone else from 1 to 30 remained in the same position.

Yeah. This was a climbers oriented Giro edition. ITT was not all that important.
