Well I once won a Vuelta in PCM with Igor Antón by winning an intermediate sprint in Madrid, so I have nothing against it. Otherwise there would be no point in handing out those seconds in the first place.
Don't remind me of the stage in Madrid on PCM. I still have flashbacks of how I lost a Vuelta (that I had in the bag) to Carlos Barredo (with a fuga bidone) after I decided to simulate the last stage :tearsofjoy:

This is actually a time trial where idiotic fans could be highly influential imo. Because any interruption to a rider's rhythm on such slopes could be catastrophic.

Slovenian fans with cell phones on 14-18% gradients where they can keep up for a long time... oh boy, it's going to get nasty :screamcat:

So, first question of the day. Who will lead the stage after the first wave of riders?

Moscon? Ries? Williams? Pöstlberger? D Bais?

Probably Williams.

How will we know the effect?

Obviously we will never know for sure without a reference point. If he smashes the TT then there was no negative effect (possibly a positive due to knowing the climb better). Contrary, if he goes badly then maybe some negative influence happened (or at least knowing the route better didn't help).

So this climb is steeper than the Zoncolan, the Mortirolo and the Angliru, but also shorter. Does this make it the toughest climb in the history of professional road cycling? Or do you attach more importance to altitude and length?
It's not steeper than Zonc. Whether your measure is the steepest 200 m, 1 km, 2 km, 3 km, 4 km, or 5 km of the climb. In all of those, Zonc is steeper.

Not sure if that was the best idea TBH. If he had used a super-low gear then ok (but his cadence suggests it wasn't). We will know the effect in a few hours.

I've been seeing a few comments like this but there's a 7-8 hour gap between his recon & actual ITT so... I don't know.

They probably know what works best for him.

In the 2014 Monte Grappa MTT, Quintana not only changed bike but also helmet for the climb. Is it hot enough today for that to make sense?

Thomas not safe then even if he leads after today.

More than anything, my greatest hope for this stage is that the overall winner will also be the best of the GC riders in the stage, preferably winning the stage.
Not sure if Thomas wins the stage but he would deserve it

They probably don't have that many camera motobikes, and they can't send them down once they've got up the climb - at least not before the first break :(
