The other cyclist could be stefan schumacher, maybe, I am just guessing though he has history of this and did not get a medal...

Add to that the TT was 2 1/2 weeks after the final TT of the Tour de France. The half life of CERA is pretty long and could well have still been in his system in Beijing.

U.S. Olympic Committee spokesman Darryl Seibel said the federation hadn't received notification from the IOC of any adverse findings involving a U.S. athlete.

I recall reading that the half-life of CERA is approximately 130 hours (11 days), so depending on the test sensitivity (of which I do not know the details) that is certainly a possibility.

If it is true that Davide Rebellin is positive then I will truly be upset, he is one of my favorite riders.

Another kick in the teeth for cycling fans.
After being over the moon last week to see Rebellin perform so well in the Ardennes, I had to read this:mad:.
When will it end?

it's really heartbreaking news--I've always liked Rebellin and now he's another scar in the face of cycling. but beyond all this bull****- I always wonder why WADA, CONI, IOC & AFLD are able to catch the cheaters and UCI seems to fall behind---I bet that if Rebellin ever had a Biological Passport,it should have shown OK values for UCI standards....

You're all so violent, isn't a ban enough?

Can't wait to see what happens to you all when you get a ticket :D

I said last week Rebellin was just too good in Fleche. And dont forget that when he was at Liquigas he was charged with doping too - but that case crashed down.

I wasnt surprised at all.

If Rebellin goes, Andy Schleck wins both La Fleche Wallone and LBL.

Yes, but technically, you can't edit the photo's and video's of what really happened.

Also, he tested positive for the Olympics but not (so far) those races, so technically he won them clean(ish), till proven otherwise. I'd let him keep them, he's done for anyway and I doubt reshuffling after the fact really matters to Andy anyway, Liege was a much bigger prize in his palarmes.

JUICED big time! actually after a positive everything else after that is taken until the suspension starts.

Schleck looks like a 15 yr old! I bet his FTP is over 6... Maybe 6.3 watts per kilo.

I doubt swimmers would be using CERA. Swimming is about strength and lactic acid tolerance and CERA wouldn't help most of them. The only ones would possibly be the 10k swimmers who I guess need more heart based endurance.

Jeebus, you go away for a few hours and the world caves in on itself...

The doping schedules drawn up by Victor Conte's BALCO clients included use of EPO every few days. This was for sprinters.

I doubt it. Even 800 or 1500m swimmers don't train for heart rate based endurance. They still require strength and are thus very muscular. CERA would probably help a bit but as far as I know they still swim with high levels of lactic acid in their arms and legs so their limiting aspect is still lactic acid tolerance.

I'm not saying it's impossible but compared to other athletes it's more unlikely.

INGSVE, you really need to go back and brush up on your physiology, to say rowing and swimming is highly strange to be on of the sports that tests positive because they are based on strength and lactic tolerance, not really on endurance is utter C#$P!!!!! Aerobic endurance is definately an attribute of these sports!!!!

Rebellin doesnt surprise me either. Most likely been on the juice for years and its a pity he's been caught so deep into his career. Those Italian positives are starting to pile up.

I like what Phil Liggett had to say about this whole mess. This pulled from CN's main section:

Cycling commentator Phil Liggett was disappointed that cycling will be damaged once more for its efforts to fight the doping issue. He is angry that the only athlete linked to any of the six samples is a cyclist, which he believes demonstrates cycling is being unfairly targeted.

"I've no sympathy for the guilty but we were promised results in January and what angers me is that only the cyclist's name has come out," he said. "Cycling seems to be the easy sport to kick around. Of course there were some very questionable performances at the Olympics, from a lot of sports.

"It's up to the IOC to come out and name names but once again it's one rule for cycling and one rule for everyone else," he added. "If the news on this rider is correct, then it calls into question all of his results from the last year and it raises the question whether they're still testing for CERA. Cycling pays for its honesty."

I also have to wonder whether or not we could, or even should, strip Rebellin for his F-W win. He didn't test positive there, did he?* I mean, are we going back and removing Richard Virenque's KOM jerseys, of which at least 4 of them were when he was on EPO and God knows what else. How about Zabel's green jersey when he admitted to being on EPO, like Riis Tour win. How about everything Valverde has won since Operation Puerto, if he's (finally) found guilty? How about Vinokourov's obvious doped up 2006 Vuelta win? Or what about Lance's 1999 Tour, or some of Pantani's wins? Where would this end?

Then again, Kayle Leogrande was stripped from all of his results having lost his hearing for EPO use...

*Yes, I'm aware that the "tested positive" mantra means little, however it is the sanctioning protocol.
