But I think I can put it a little bit better:

David Millar is one of the lowest forms of human life.
I had thought that, in the wake of 'Femkes' bust for riding a motor bike in a bike race, we were all supposed to be focusing more on the enablers and those responsible for leading young riders astray. David was only 20 when he was thrown into the sewer that is pro bike racing, so who knows what pressures he faced, and it is hard to remake the model once the die has been cast...

Robert - I see you cannot let go of your repetitive and endless tirade about 'Femke'. Notwithstanding the many patient efforts made by Libertine Seguros and others to address your position, I am really getting the vibe that you have a chip on your shoulder regarding female athletes. My view on that is bolstered by your comments about Millar - and your suggestion that he was impressionable at age 20. Well I'm quite sure he was - just as 'Femke' very likely suffers from a domineering parent who is intent on driving her career, perhaps with her enthusiastic consent, or perhaps with her resigned submission. But you seem to be overlooking the fact that Millar is now a middle-aged man, and he has managed to do an awful lot of harm across a great many years - with the full capacity that mature adulthood endowed him with. Surely the sanctions you would like to see placed upon 'Femke' should apply equally to others, or does Millar - oops, I meant 'David', elicit a little more generosity?

How did I do?

Last year when he was commentating on a couple of races which were shown on ITV4 (I think) every time I had to look at his smarmy mug I turned the TV off. A couple of times his co-presenter felt moved to explain why Millar was present, given the doping and all that, and he gave the whole reformed druggie spiel. It all looked a little uncomfortable, but it was hilarious nonetheless.

Some have standards. Well done Vin.

I agree. And it's notable that so few (if any) others have also objected to Millar's various roles. What does that tell us about the real state of the sport? What a joke. Millar feels he's untouchable.

There were a number of disappointing responses in that discussion - in fact I was surprised at the number of people who defended Millar and I take that to be a sign of their naivete and perhaps a low knowledge base regarding Millar and real life in general. Somebody took a pop at Nicole Cooke for failing to name names and blow the whistle. Again, a complete lack of comprehension of what is involved in that:

Judge: Ms Cooke, tell us exactly what happened.
NC: I was standing in one of the campers with another cyclist and a member of staff came in and asked us if we wanted to help ourselves to some drugs - we opened the fridge door and there they were.
Judge: What did you see?
NC: It appeared to be pharmaceutical products, but I wasn't interested so I moved away.
Judge: What was written on the labels?
NC: I didn't read the labels
Judge: So you don't know for definite that it was drugs?
NC: They were drugs, they were offered to us, in order to help our performance
Judge: Did you see anyone else take these drugs, and perform better?
NC: No, there was just me and the other cyclists there
Judge: What was the name of the other cyclist?
NC: It was XXXX XXXXX
Judge: We interviewed her, and she doesn't recall the incident at all. And if she did, she made it clear that she isn't going to say anything in case she loses her awesome job, and she's earning lots now
NC: Well it happened
Judge: Except the guy who offered you the drugs, and the other witness, say it didn't happen. So it's your word against theirs - and you have absolutely no evidence to prove what you're saying. You don't have the drugs in your possession, you don't know what the substances were even, and nobody has come forward to back you up - in fact everyone is saying you've lost your mind. Expect a libel case to come your way, and soon.

but no one mentions if Garmin enters the transfer market and buys riders for unders in mkt terms.

like Armstrong stocked his domestique full of bargain based 70k euro Spanish mtn domestiques and paying Hincapie 800USk the monies that the Spanish domestiques miss out on, and Heras got the big money contract too.

No doubt. Why do you think Pro Continental teams lap up banned Pro Tour riders. Slipstream Sports did it for the same reason, just as a Pro Tour squad.

the worst was Mike Ball and Rock Racing.

He paid them chickenfeed and they drove the Cadillac Escillades and had the strippers as podium girls. So sooo sooo trashy, even for Mike Ball, he really outdid himself.

Another way to look at it is, is where are the following protour riders before and after bans in 2013/2014:

Dekker > Retired
Di Luca > Lifetime Ban, but went down to Vini Fantini–Selle Italia to get 2013 contract
Tiernan-Locke > Sky/Endura to 2nd Cat Amateur
Iglinsky brothers > Astana to retired/amateur now
Ballan > BMC to being in talks with Pro Continental for his return
Ubeto > Lampre to assume he'll retire this year after ban?

Schleck > Trek to Trek..........

T Dekker > Garmin, got 3 years
Basso > CSC to Liquigas/Cannondale then back to Riis
Valverde > Straight back to Abarca
Ricco > Saunier Duval to Vacansoleil
Contador > Saxo to Saxo
Millar > Cofidis to Saunier Duval then Garmin
Scarponi > Lampre to Lampre
White > Orica to Orica
Julich > Sky to BMC
Yates > Sky to Saxo

Not the best analogy there Sammy

Actually, Riccò was in "quarantine", came back with Ceramica Flaminia and when he signed for them Vacansoleil were still ProConti, while Scarponi came back with Androni Giocattoli and rode for them for two years before returning to the ProTour with Lampre. Scarponi did things exactly as had previously been the informal agreement, that ProTour teams would leave the returning dopers alone for a couple of years to see how they did before bringing them back. Millar was one of the first exceptions to that agreement in fact, predating Basso who was the most high profile exception until Vino.

Facts are that the guy may have had his 2003 gold stripped from him but he still has his silver medal from Portugal in his pocket. If he is anti-doping then presumably he is holding onto that silver because he did not dope and won it clean. If he did not dope and he missed out to gold, getting within seconds of a fully charged Ulrich and in that top 10 many have been popped since, it would appear that his ride was one of the most awesome ever in the history of the world TT champs. After all, the testing for epo was so poor it never caught him when he was a user. It didn't catch Jan and Jan has now confessed.

What about Frank Schleck and Ulissi?

Lampre never fired Ulissi, so he still had a contract with Lampre after his short ban.
Frank also got a reduced ban for political reasons and the new Trek team resigned him.

You seem confused about what riders were banned in 2013/14 where my list is based?

I was looking at recent 2 year bans from 2013/14 only and riders that would be returning in 2016. I think you can still come back directly into top level with a 1 year ban for recreational and weight loss / tweaking drugs, but not the epo and testosterone and blood passport violations.

Millar knows where the bodies are buried.

If the BC establishment don't keep Il Millarisimo sweet and provide him with the opportunities he believes he's earned and deserves, he might just get 'anti-doping' on Sky's @@@. All unsaid. Doesn't need to be said. All good. Jobs for the boys. Jobs for the whiny little prima donna throw their bikes over the line at the Angliru @@@@@.

I luuurve David Millar. Why was he never BBC Sports Personality of the Year?

I'm sure he would have voted for himself.

Article on Stickybottle.com the Irish cycling website about the 'clean' dream team David Millar chose. 5 of the nine confirmed dopers.

Strange he didn't include Armstrong.

I thought that was a windup when I first read it. This guy can really take the p*ss. It's not even funny any more.

lets assume they are ALL doping... the 9 Millar named.

I know they all doped for chrissakes, i dont gotta imagine...

and Millar knows....

so what, what does this say? Millar does not give a ****

I seem to remember a while ago seeing Millar look a journalist in the eye and say that he rode better as a clean athlete. I think the reasoning behind this is that he was mercifully free of the guilt of doing something so shockingly awful. There is no end to the b*llshit this guy will pedal. So on top of everything else we now know that cleanness makes you a more effective competitor. The same must go for all the others at Garmin, and the rest of the dopers who come back with equally good or better results. It's that feelgood factor of knowing that you are more honest than everyone else.

If you really want to know what young David prefers, my friend,
you could join one of the "Ultimate Cycling" weekends in April at
the Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel in Mallora. After your ride (with a
Maserati support vehicle) wearing your David Millar Chpt.III Castelli
kit (included) and a spa recovery session you will join David for dinner
each evening. Some might like to chat about his professional cycling
career but I'm sure he would answer any questions you have about his
choice of alcoholic beverages. :)

Alsa how could Millar not remind us once again of the many victims of the "incredibly difficult period". So Millar calls Hesjedal a maverick...was this cause he doped as a mountain biker but went clean to try and bring home the gold from Athens in 2004 as he transitioned F'T to the road? :p
